{"id":7940,"date":"2017-09-22T21:30:07","date_gmt":"2017-09-22T11:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/?p=7940"},"modified":"2017-09-22T15:10:46","modified_gmt":"2017-09-22T05:10:46","slug":"tennis-tasmania-awards-winners-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2017\/09\/22\/tennis-tasmania-awards-winners-announced","title":{"rendered":"Tennis Tasmania Awards Winners Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7944 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2017\/09\/Tennis-Colour.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"327\" height=\"227\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>2017 Tennis Tasmania Awards<\/strong> winner were announced in a special <strong>Celebration of Tennis<\/strong> <strong>presentation<\/strong> at the Henry Jones Art Hotel last night.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennis Tasmania Awards celebrate the contribution made by players, coaches, clubs, communities, volunteers and officials for their service to the sport.<\/p>\n<p>These awards align with the prestigious <strong>Australian Tennis Awards \/ Newcombe Medal<\/strong> to be held on Monday 27 November. Winners are now eligible to nominate for an Australian Tennis Award in their respective categories<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the night was when 84-year-old <strong>Max Byrne<\/strong> was inducted into the <strong>Tennis Tasmania Life Membership<\/strong> in recognition of the significant contribution he has made to the sport throughout his life.<\/p>\n<p>Max not only has had strong individual accolades including medal finishes at the ITF World Senior Championships, but for more than 55 years, he has dedicated a large part of his life to improving Tennis in Tasmania at a state, regional and club level.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Tasmania President <strong>Philip Bowden<\/strong> was delighted to recognise Max and his achievements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMax has a rich history in Tasmanian tennis and we couldn\u2019t think of a more deserving person to induct into life membership tonight,\u201d Mr Bowden said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of our sport, I\u2019d like to extend our gratitude to Max for his invaluable contribution to Tasmanian tennis this past 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d also like to thank the wider Tasmanian tennis community, including players, members, volunteers and coaches for their excellent contribution year-round to our great sport\u201d Mr Bowden continued.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Tasmania CEO <strong>Darren Sturgess<\/strong> was thrilled to be involved in his first awards night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur celebration of tennis incorporating the Tennis Tasmania Awards night is a great way to recognise the significant contribution of members within the tennis community,\u201d Mr Sturgess said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe received a high calibre of applications, which is a testament to the number of people who go above and beyond in their roles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis is truly a sport for life and appeals to all ages, genders, and abilities. It is built on the hard work of volunteers, clubs, coaches, officials, players and members, and this night is a great way to celebrate the valuable contribution of all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so pleased and grateful for the support of the wider tennis community in recognising and celebrating the great achievements of all our winners tonight.
