{"id":6272,"date":"2010-12-13T14:15:32","date_gmt":"2010-12-13T04:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/?p=414"},"modified":"2010-12-13T14:15:32","modified_gmt":"2010-12-13T04:15:32","slug":"burnie-international-receives-2010-most-outstanding-tournament-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2010\/12\/13\/burnie-international-receives-2010-most-outstanding-tournament-award","title":{"rendered":"Burnie International Receives 2010 Most Outstanding Tournament Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-415\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/news\/2010\/12\/13\/burnie-international-receives-2010-most-outstanding-tournament-award\/attachment\/burnie-international-most-outstanding-tournament\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-415  alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tas\/files\/2010\/12\/Burnie-International-Most-Outstanding-Tournament-410x272.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The <strong>Burnie International<\/strong> has received the <strong>2010 Most Outstanding Tournament Award<\/strong> at the\u00a0 inaugural black tie <strong>Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards<\/strong> in Melbourne last Friday night.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The other finalists in this Award category were <strong>Cliffs Esperance International <\/strong>(WA)<strong> and Cairns International Pro Tour <\/strong>(QLD).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Anthony Johnstone<\/strong> of the Burnie International had the honour of accepting the Australian Tennis Award from tennis great and CEO of the International Group of the ATP, <strong>Brad Drewett.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is great recognition of all the hard work the club has put in over the past 10 years,\u201d Johnstone said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been running a Futures tournament for a few years and then we put on Challenger tournament, which we\u2019ve been running for the past seven to eight years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Award will give recognition to the volunteers and the hard work they have put in.\u201d<em>\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nominations for this prestigious award were received over a three week period from 15 October 2010 to 5 November 2010, with finalists, and the eventual winner, selected through rigorous process with specific eligibility and selection criteria.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Newcombe Medal is the premier award on a night that recognises service to tennis at all levels &#8211; club, coaches, players, volunteers, community and officials.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural <strong>Newcombe Medal<\/strong> was presented to Australia\u2019s most outstanding elite player, <strong>Samantha Stosur<\/strong>, current world No. 6, in recognition of the achievements of Australian tennis legend <strong>John Newcombe<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it is a great honour,\u201d Stosur said.\u00a0 \u201cIt is a really good initiative of Tennis Australia to put a night like this together for everyone to celebrate our sport.
