Players looking to hone their skills and gain more match practice have opted to play in the prestigious Glenorchy Open this weekend whilst the older more experience outfits are taking a few days to themselves to be in peak condition come next Sunday 16th November.

Launceston Cobras team captain Jeff Speer believes a few days off will do wonders for his ailing body with the break timely given the high standard of tennis. “For me it’s a great time to relax and give the body and mind a bit of a rest. We have played in three highly competitive matches that have been draining both physically and mentally. I will hopefully get away after my coaching and relax before full a full training regime next week”. The Cobras have went a perfect 3-0 in the supremely talented North/North-West conference with the Lindisfarne Sharks their semi-final opponent. “I know John Playle (Sharks manager) will have his charges in tip top shape and will have them firing from the outset.”

In the other men’s semi the Geilston Bay Aces will do battle against the Launceston Rams. The slow starting Rams have really hit their stride in the final two rounds with resounding wins over the Titans and Broncos respectively. Last week’s demolition of the Broncos gained much attention with Aces captain Tony Blom taking notice. “The Launceston Rams will be a formidable opponent for us next weekend. We will have to be firing on all cylinders to come through the match unscathed’. Blom has shuffled around his Aces team more than any other with the valuable doubles prowess of youngster Bailey Horne an integral piece to his team’s success. “Bailey has come up huge for us this year. His doubles play has been outstanding with the added value of keeping our team well rested and fresh.”

Lastly the women’s TTL final will be contested between the Lindisfarne Lady Sharks and Geilston Bay Lady Aces. In a rematch of last weekend’s three matches all instant classic neither team will give any ground in anticipation of next weekend’s contest. For the Lindsifarne Sharks Erin Fazackerley and Jessica Fowler they will use the extra week to gain chemistry on the doubles court as they compete in the Glenorchy Open together. Depending on how she recovers from an injury Ace standout Wynonah Conway could be the difference this time around. Conway was interstate when the teams met under the lights last weekend with her sublime retrieving skills and counterpunching style a key in next week’s contest.

We are very much looking forward to capping off what has already been a thrilling Tasmanian Tennis League regular season. All teams will be playing off with $10,000 prize money as well as being labelled as the best team in the state on offer.

With the very best Tasmanian talent on show get down to the Domain Tennis Centre next Sunday 16th November from 10.30am for an outstanding day, showcasing the best players in the state. To add to the already carnival type atmosphere the very best 10/u and 12/u players across the state will also be duking it out against one another with club and regional bragging rights on show!

Tasmanian Tennis League Semi Final Schedule:

Sunday 16 November, 10.30am

Semi Final 1: Launceston Cobras (3-0) Vs Lindisfarne Sharks (1-1-1) – Domain Tennis Centre

Semi Final 2: Geilston Bay Aces (2-0-1) Vs Launceston Rams (2-1) – Domain Tennis Centre

Tasmanian Tennis League Final Schedule:

Sunday 16 November, 1.30pm, Domain Tennis Centre

Men’s Final: Winner Semi Final 1 Vs Winner Semi Final 2 – Domain Tennis Centre

Women’s Final: Lindisfarne Sharks (2-0-1) Vs Geilston Bay Aces (1-1-1) – Domain Tennis Centre

Men’s 3rd/4th Place: Runner up Semi Final 1 Vs Runner up Semi Final 2 – Domain Tennis Centre

Team results are as follows; Individual results can be found by going to comps.tennis.com.au and typing in ‘Tasmanian Tennis League’.

With a week off to finalise preparations for a mouth-watering finals day in the Tasmanian Tennis League (TTL) teams are taking a varied approach as they set their sights on the inaugural TTL title.
