Eight young tennis players from Northern Tasmania have been selected as official Ballkids for the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Play-off in Hobart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the 18 Ballkid squad chosen to represent the state on court, are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Mary-Lee Matthys (Launceston)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Luca Dyson-Oliver (Launceston)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Wilfred McKibben (Launceston)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Lacey Weinert (Burnie)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Lucas Weinert (Burnie)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Paige Jacobson (Burnie)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Nixon Parker (Burnie)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
Tennis Tasmania Development Officer, Ms Georga Maier said the selection recognises the hard work and enthusiasm of junior players across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve loved being able to grow the Ballkid Program from this year\u2019s Launceston and Burnie Internationals and give some of those kids the chance to be part of the Billie Jean King Cup in Hobart,\u201d Ms Maier said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s incredibly exciting to have an event like the Billie Jean King Cup come to Tasmania \u2014 it\u2019s essentially the World Cup of Women\u2019s Tennis. To have some of the best female players in the world right here in Hobart once again is just awesome for our state and for Tasmanian Tennis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been fantastic to offer some of these ballkids from across the state the incredible opportunity to be involved. What\u2019s particularly special is that many of these ballkids are also regular players in our leagues and tournaments, so being courtside with some of the best players in the world and serving them is hugely inspiring for them \u2014 it gives them a real sense of what\u2019s possible in tennis and something to strive towards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe’re super proud of all ballkids who give up their time to help make these world-class events a success,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Culture Amp Australian Billie Jean King Cup Team of Maya Joint, Kimberly Birrell, Priscilla Hon, Ellen Perez, and Storm Hunter will face Portugal on Friday 14 November and Brazil on Sunday 16 November, with Brazil and Portugal set to meet on Saturday 15 November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tickets for the Billie Jean King Cup Play-off start at $30, with kids going free across all three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
