Local talent and seventh seed Alicia Dale<\/strong> made an impressive run to the Girls Singles Final of the Burnie Junior International, marking a significant achievement for Tasmanian tennis.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Dale’s path to the final showcased her skill and determination as she defeated fellow Australians Aimee Jin<\/strong> (NSW) and Jennifer Ott<\/strong> (NSW), along with Tasmanian Escher Case-Boag<\/strong> and Western Australia’s Sara Nikolic<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>In the final, tournament top seed Sarah Mildren <\/strong>(SA) proved too strong, claiming the championship with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory to secure the Girls Singles title.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

For Dale, who recently qualified for her first J300 tournament in Traralgon – an Australian Open lead-up event – the tournament represented another step in her tennis journey.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s been a really good experience having the two new J100s in Burnie and Launceston. Having more exposure without having to travel so far is fantastic. These tournaments provide really good exposure because these ITFs are international. Lots of nationalities come and play, so it’s also really good to see how you’re tracking against the rest of the world.”” Dale said.<\/span><\/p>\n

“My aspirations are to hopefully go to college in the USA and experience life over there, and then hopefully go on the tour if I’m good enough.”<\/p>\n

Dale’s recent experience as a hitter during the WTA 250 Hobart International provided valuable insights into professional tennis.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I noticed those players are hitting really hard balls… the quality of their shots are really good. Every single shot they try and play it as best they can – that was my main takeaway.”<\/p>\n

Fellow finalist Scarlett Dattoli, who partnered with Dale in the doubles final, praised the Burnie Junior International atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’ve never been to Tassie before, so it’s my first time being here and playing. It’s been a good experience with all the locals coming around. I was very surprised and excited to see the ball kids – it was my first time with ball kids and they kept us going on the sidelines,” Dattoli said.<\/p>\n

\nThe significance of Tasmania’s five-week tennis festival wasn’t lost on Dale. <\/span><\/p>\n


\n“Having these five weeks of tennis in Tasmania is really good exposure because it brings people down to Tassie. It’s really good for the local community, and it helps us experience what pro life is like – week in, week out. If something doesn’t go well in the first week, you can put it in the past and move on to the next week,” Dale said.<\/span><\/p>\n
