A strong contingent of local and interstate junior players braved a range of “Tasmanian” weather conditions across four days of competition for the Tasmanian State Age Championships at the Domain Tennis Centre in Hobart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A total of 84 competitors took part across 14 events, with age groups ranging from 10\/u through to 18\/u.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Tournament Director Fairlie Lamond was full of praise for the wider tennis community for their sportsmanship, positive attitudes and support throughout the Championships.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I’d like to send a massive thanks to all players, officials and parents,” she said.<\/p>\n

“You were all so wonderful to work with and it was our absolute pleasure to host everyone during this school holiday event.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The strength of the draws was evident by the number of seeded interstate players across all divisions, however a number of locals were able to claim individual titles, led by Tasmanian Easter Championships title winners<\/a> Britta Russell and Alicia Dale.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The locals fared well in the doubles events, with Rupert Mullins, Lily Marshall and National Claycourt Championships standout George Anderson<\/a> registering wins, while the 10\/u awards division saw some familiar names on certificates.<\/div>\n

The next competitive stop and final event of the school holidays for many 12\/u and 14\/u juniors will be the Rafa Nadal Tour event in Burnie<\/a>, set to take place from 17-20 April at Burnie Tennis Club.<\/div>\n
