Sunshine Coast Ladies Midweek Tennis Association Inc

Charity Day Wednesday 13th February 2019

14 February 2019 |
Although the numbers were down on previous years those who attended had a great day. The heat was at times overbearing but with long respite between sets the gallant ladies forged on. Division 1 players competed against each other except for a composite set to avoid 4 players sitting off. Thanks Rosemary for your input. “Up there for thinking, down there for dancing”!
Divisions 2 & 3 competed against each other.
Winner of Division 1 Jenny Broomhill from Conroy, runner up was Robyn Brown from Caloundra. Consolation was accepted by Kaye Wright & President Annie Lyons. I hope the box of tissues came in handy to dry up your tears!
Divisions 2 & 3 was won by Sonia Douglas from Witta, Runner up Dell Huey from Maroochydore, Consolation prize was awarded to Jackie Gray also from Witta. Thanks for being a great sport Jackie!
Thank you Lyndal for donating the Lucky Door Prize. This was won by Jenny Broomhill from Conroy.  The Raffle prize was won by Helen George. Congratulations Helen.
Guessing the ANZAC’s in the bottle two ladies guessed the correct number “30”. Annie Lyons from Caloundra & Claire Hickey from Witta were asked to pick a number between 1 & 5. Claire was the eventual winner of the coveted ANZAC’s!
The Jamaica Blue Coffe Shop & eatery in Kawana generously donated three (3) $10 vouchers. These were decided by a ticket draw of people who hadn’t won a prize. Enjoy!
A table laden with Cent Sale Prizes were distributed to the winners drawn. Highlight was the prize of a “ Mannikin”! This was won by Kaye Wright. She was soooo excited. It’s Valentines Day soon Kaye! My  mind boggles!
We were very pleased to welcome Rob & Karen from Orange Sky Laundry. They delivered a very interesting & heart warming talk on who started this service, how it has been accepted & how it has expanded Australia wide. Even the U S A is wanting to establish this service in their country. After the talk all ladies were invited to inspect the unit in the car park. The van travels around the Sunshine Coast providing a laundry, drying service free of charge. to displaced persons. The van had two 10kg automatic washing machines the laundry powder is automatically distributed to each machine. Orange chairs & laundry baskets are provided for the users, the volunteers have the opportunity to chat with these people while waiting for the 27 minute wash cycle. Then the washing is transferred to the two dryers in the middle of the van. The service also has a generator if no power is available. Most were amazed at the amount of washing they do on a weekly basis. Carol presented Rob & Karen with a cheque for $600 the profit from the day. She also presented them with a small gift in appreciation of their attendance.
A delicious morning tea was served between the sets of tennis. Thank you to all who generously provided this food. After the inspection of the van ladies & guests were provided with a ham & salad lunch.
At the conclusion of the Cent Sale Carol, thanked those on the committee & others who helped in anyway. I feel a special thank you needs to be given to Sandi Saunders who was there from start to finish. Thank you!
Annie closed the day with a special thank you to Kawana Tennis Club for their generous donation of the tennis courts & club house every year for our Charity Tennis Day. Annie presented Carol with a beautiful bouquet of flowers for the organisation of another very successful Charity Day, Carol Morris Charity Day Chairperson.
