Carol Morris congratulates Ros Evans on her Div 1 win

The SCLMWTA Charity Tennis Day held at Kawana Tennis Club on Wednesday 16th Feb was a great success. Morning rain stopped in time to allow players to hit the courts for 3 -4 sets of tennis – a great warm up for fixtures which commence next week. And warm up they did!! Many a red face was to be seen in the club house due to the heat and humidity of the day.

The tournament format that is used for Charity Days teams top division players with lower division players which proves to be a lovely social mix. There is always a degree of competition as players vie for prizes on the day. Congratulations to Ros Evans for her Div 1 win, Noelene Meacham and Aki Leper shared second place. Stacey English took out Div 2, Margaret Cawthorne in second place. Sportsmanship awards were given to Jo Williams and Denise Morris.

Dr John Outridge from Royal Flying Doctor Service addressed the assembled players highlighting the work of the Charleville-based service. He brought not only the challenges and remoteness of Western Qld and the difficulties faced by families, communities and medical practitioners but also the beauty and vastness of the area into the Kawana clubhouse via a very informative and picturesque power point presentation.

SCLMWTA Charity Chairperson Carol Morris is to be congratulated for her amazing effort and organisation. The event takes weeks of preparation and Carol is always one step ahead of the mark!! She received lots of support and wishes to acknowledge: the many clubs who were represented; teams who donated items for the cent sale; Jarrod Bleijie for his donation and support; Kawana businesses – Mr Minit, Red Apple, Michels coffee; Adult Shop Mooloolaba; and the help of many volunteers players and non-players.

Players and spectators enjoyed the day
