It has been played since 1938 and was first presented by the Hon HA Bruce, MLA, a former Minister of Education in Queensland. Many players who have won Wimbledon and become the finest players in the world played their first representative matches for their state in the Bruce Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Rod Laver, arguably one of the greatest tennis players ever, represented Queensland in the Bruce Cup. Lew Hoad, Jan Lehane, Fred Stolle, John Alexander and Wally Masur all represented their state in the Bruce Cup. More recently, past Bruce Cup participants Jason Stoltenberg, Pat Rafter, Todd Woodbridge, Mark Philippoussis, Rachel McQuillan and Evie Dominokovic have all performed with distinction on the international scene.<\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"http:\/\/www.decd.sa.gov.au\/sport\/pages\/sport\/interstatesapsasa\/\" target=\"_blank\">&gt;Nominate for the team, click here<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Before Friday 20 May<\/h5>\n<h5>Trials<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Trial 1- 29 May 9.00am \u2013 2.00pm Millswood Tennis Centre<\/li>\n<li>Trial 2 &#8211; 19 June 9.00am \u2013 2.00pm Millswood Tennis Centre<\/li>\n<li>Trial 3 &#8211; 26 June TBA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Selection Process<\/h5>\n<p>The selection panel will be the coach, manager and a third representative.<br \/>\nSelection will be made on the basis of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Results during match play at the selection trials<\/li>\n<li>Tournament results<\/li>\n<li>Information gathered from coaches and Tennis SA representatives, who will be involved in the selection process.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to be a positive team member.<\/li>\n<li>Age &amp; physical ability, skills and playing style suitability to the Bruce Cup format.<\/li>\n<li>Known ability or ranking as indicated by the state tennis body.<\/li>\n<li>Being a &#8216;good sport&#8217; and demonstrating good behaviour off the field.<\/li>\n<li>Parental permission has been obtained for the championship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Further Compulsory Commitments if Selected<\/h5>\n<p>All selected team members will be required to attend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All team trainings: Likely dates \u2013 10am \u2013 12 noon on July 31, August 28, Sept 25, Oct tbc.<\/li>\n<li>A team photo shoot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All dates will be notified once they have been confirmed.<\/p>\n<h5>Endorsement<\/h5>\n<p>Please note that selection in a SAPSASA team requires endorsement from your child\u2019s school before becoming final.\u00a0Therefore you are advised not to make any arrangements that incur costs until the school has confirmed that the\u00a0student fulfils all requirements.<\/p>\n<h5>Championship Cost<\/h5>\n<p>An individual itemised account will be provided for every student selected in an interstate team. Championship levies,\u00a0travel and training costs relevant to the student will be included on the invoice. Please note that trips interstate may be\u00a0quite expensive and many have exceeded $1000. NB: Uniforms*, accommodation, food and personal spending\u00a0money will be additional costs for families and will not appear on the invoice. *All uniforms are to be ordered on-line\u00a0with credit card payment direct to the supplier required to process the order.<\/p>\n<h5>Accommodation<\/h5>\n<p>Parents who are in a position to accompany their children must provide their own accommodation whilst at the\u00a0championship. This also includes transport to and from the venue each day. Should this not be possible then the\u00a0family will need to negotiate with SAPSASA to arrange appropriate accommodation.<\/p>\n<h5>Travel<\/h5>\n<p>If selected in a state team, a non-refundable flight booking fee applies. This amount will be included on the student\u2019s\u00a0itemized account. Students have two travel options;<\/p>\n<p>1. Travel with officials as a group to and from the championship, with all travel arrangements coordinated\u00a0through the SAPSASA office.<br \/>\n2. Parent \/ Caregiver may negotiate independent travel arrangements (eg plane, bus, train car) for the return\u00a0trip only. Students who are returning independently of the group, but on the same flight, bus, train, car must\u00a0still be accompanied by a parent \/caregiver.
