{"id":9502,"date":"2016-02-03T15:15:24","date_gmt":"2016-02-03T04:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=9502"},"modified":"2016-02-03T15:15:24","modified_gmt":"2016-02-03T04:45:24","slug":"two-wells-bask-in-kerbers-glory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2016\/02\/03\/two-wells-bask-in-kerbers-glory","title":{"rendered":"Two Wells bask in Kerber&#8217;s Glory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South Australian town of <strong>Two Wells<\/strong> has cemented themselves as a champion of <strong>Australian Open 2016,<\/strong> earning their status as one of Australia\u2019s most tennis-loving towns.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a Tennis Australia participation campaign clubs around Australia hosted<strong> Free Tennis Days<\/strong>, opening up their clubs to the local community and encouraging people of all ages and abilities to pick up a racquet and have a hit.<\/p>\n<p>By hosting a Free Tennis Day clubs earned points for their town, with extra points earned for every person in attendance on the day. The top points-scoring towns were awarded with maindraw singles players to support on court at Australian Open 2016.\u00a0Two Wells Tennis Club was paired with <strong>Angelique Kerber.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The club formed a fan group to support Kerber&#8217;s progress in the tournament, and had 16 members travel to Melbourne Park to watch Kerber win her second round match against Alexandra Dulgheru.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone at the Club is absolutely speechless. What a great role model for the young players at our Club&#8221; beamed Club Junior Coordinator, <strong>Marie Tapscott.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kerber&#8217;s\u00a0victory against Serena Williams in the final has landed\u00a0Two Wells Tennis Club a special\u00a0visit from the Australian Open trophies <strong>Norman Brookes Challenge Cup<\/strong> and <strong>Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup<\/strong> to celebrate their win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The South Australian town of Two Wells has cemented themselves as a champion of Australian Open 2016, earning their status as one of Australia\u2019s most tennis-loving towns.
