In the match of the day, second seed Marcos Baghdatis (CYP)<\/strong> defeated John-Patrick Smith (AUS)<\/strong> 6-4 6-3 in front of an excited crowd, booking himself a spot in the second round.<\/p>\n It was a great day for the Australian qualifiers with Andrew Harris <\/strong>knocking out Japanese sixth seed, Hiroki Moriya,<\/strong> in straight sets 7-5 6-1. Andrew Whittington (AUS)<\/strong> also won through to the second round after defeating Ze Zhang (CHN)<\/strong> 6-3 6-4.<\/p>\n South Australian, Luke Saville<\/strong> hit Centre Court later in the afternoon and put up a good fight, but was unfortunately defeated by Tim Puetz (GER)<\/strong> 6-4 6-4.<\/p>\n In the longest matches of the day, Wayne Odesnik (USA)<\/strong> overcame Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN)<\/strong> 6-7(4) 7-6(3) 6-3 and Jurgen Zopp (EST)<\/strong> defeated Gerald Melzer (AUT) <\/strong>7-6(7) 6-7(5) 6-4.<\/p>\n In other matches, third seed Andrey Kuznetsov (RUS) <\/strong>defeated Jordan Thompson (AUS) <\/strong>6-2 6-4, fifth seed Aleksandr Nedovyesov (KAZ) <\/strong>overcame Radu Albot (MDA)<\/strong> 6-4 7-5 and Maxime Authom (BEL) <\/strong>defeated Aldin Setkic (BIH)<\/strong> 6-4 6-4.<\/p>\n Matches will start at 11:00am tomorrow, with main draw singles and doubles, headlined by number one seed Blaz Rola (SLO)<\/strong> taking on Ryan Harrison (USA) <\/strong>and number four seed, Paul-Henri Mathieu (FRA)<\/strong> playing Matteo Viola (ITA).<\/strong><\/p>\n
