{"id":6974,"date":"2014-02-24T16:00:19","date_gmt":"2014-02-24T06:30:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=6974"},"modified":"2014-02-24T16:00:19","modified_gmt":"2014-02-24T06:30:19","slug":"koreas-jang-takes-home-the-2014-city-of-salisbury-tennis-international-singles-crown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2014\/02\/24\/koreas-jang-takes-home-the-2014-city-of-salisbury-tennis-international-singles-crown","title":{"rendered":"Korea\u2019s Jang takes home the 2014 City of Salisbury Tennis International singles crown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday saw the 2014 City of Salisbury Tennis International singles final played in perfect conditions at the Salisbury Recreation Precinct.<\/p>\n<p>The finalists has been decided after some upsets on semi-final day, with unseeded player <b>Yafan Wang (CHN)<\/b> defeating number one seed <b>Misa Eguchi (JPN)<\/b> 2-6 6-3 6-1 and fifth seed <b>Su Jeong Jang (KOR)<\/b> defeating number two seed <b>Hiroko Kuwata (JPN) <\/b>6-2 6-3.<\/p>\n<p>In an exciting match, Jang won the first set of the final, six games to three. Wang then fought back and raced ahead in the second set, before a momentum change saw Jang take it to a tiebreak and win the championship in straight sets, 6-3 7-6(6).<\/p>\n<p>In an exciting prelude to the final, a MLC Tennis Hot Shots Community Play Gala Day was hosted on site, with around 30 children attending to have a go at modified tennis and test their fastest serve on the speed serve. Children then lined up prior to the final and formed a guard of honour for the players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter eight days of play, it was great to have such an entertaining and close final between Su Jeong and Yafan,\u201d said <b>Breanna Hassam<\/b>, City of Salisbury Tennis International Tournament Director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur congratulations to the staff and officials who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to put this tournament together,\u201d added Hassam.<\/p>\n<p>Jang had a successful week in Salisbury, also making her way to the doubles final played in a twilight match on Friday. Jang combined with <b>So-Ra Lee (KOR),<\/b> but they were defeated by formidable Japanese duo, Eguchi and <b>Miki Miyamura<\/b> 6-2 6-2 in an entertaining match.<\/p>\n<p>The <b>City of Salisbury Tennis International<\/b> is part of the <b>2014 Australian Pro Tour<\/b>, a series of professional tennis events that bridge junior events and the WTA Tour, providing an opportunity for players to earn their first world ranking points.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the Australian Pro Tour, Tennis Australia or the players visit <a href=\"..\/..\/\">www.tennis.com.au<\/a>.
