Australia’s Matthew Barton<\/strong> has won the inaugural Charles Sturt Adelaide International defeating Great Britain’s James Ward<\/strong> in straight sets 6-2 6-3 in the final at West Lakes Tennis Club today.<\/p>\n

Playing in his first ever Challenger final Barton played with remarkable composure in front of the 500 plus crowd continually putting Ward on the back foot with his punishing first serve and lethal forehand.\u00a0 The win will take Barton from outside the top 300 in the world to the 230\u2019s in the ATP world rankings.<\/p>\n

For Ward it was a disappointing finish to a great week in which he made his way through to the final in impressive fashion, Ward will also rise up the ATP world rankings and will leave West Lakes with considerable confidence after making the final.<\/p>\n

In the doubles, Australian pair Sam Groth<\/strong> and Matt Reid<\/strong> defeated Greg Jones<\/strong> and James Duckworth<\/strong> in an all Aussie match-up. In what was a re-match of the first round at last week\u2019s Burnie International, Groth and Reid proved too strong again for the combination of Duckworth and Jones.<\/p>\n

For Groth it was his 7th career Challenger win in the doubles while it was Reid’s first ever Challenger win.<\/p>\n
