{"id":5383,"date":"2013-02-05T22:00:23","date_gmt":"2013-02-05T12:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=5383"},"modified":"2013-02-05T22:00:23","modified_gmt":"2013-02-05T12:30:23","slug":"first-day-of-main-draw-charles-sturt-adelaide-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2013\/02\/05\/first-day-of-main-draw-charles-sturt-adelaide-international","title":{"rendered":"Day One: Charles Sturt Adelaide International"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first day of main draw at the Charles Sturt Adelaide International proved to be a day of upsets with five seeded players exiting the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest of the upsets was world number 174 and second seed <strong>Hiroki Moriya<\/strong> of Japan who was beaten by <strong>Russian Alexander Lobkov<\/strong> in straight sets 6-0,\u00a0 6-3.<\/p>\n<p>Australian 4th seed and crowd favourite <strong>John Millman<\/strong> was also eliminated losing in three tight sets to Frenchman <strong>Stephane Robert<\/strong>. Millman and Robert battled it out in the Burnie International final last week with Millman victorious however Robert exacted revenge at West Lakes, progressing to the second round at the expense of the Aussie.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Australian and seventh seed <strong>James Duckworth<\/strong> also had a tough match going down in straight sets to British player <strong>James Ward<\/strong>. \u00a0Canadian third seed <strong>Peter Polansky<\/strong> was the only seed to break the trend, accounting for New Zealander <strong>Daniel King-Turner<\/strong> in straight sets.<\/p>\n<p>On the local front, it was a successful day for the South Australian&#8217;s with <strong>Luke Saville<\/strong> and <strong>Colin Ebelthite<\/strong> progressing to the second round.\u00a0 Saville, fresh from a trip to Chinese Taipei with the Australian Davis Cup squad \u00a0accounted for <strong>Dane Propoggia<\/strong> in three sets while Ebelthite -who qualified for the main draw overcame fellow qualifier <strong>Michael Venus<\/strong> in straight sets. Unfortunately fellow South Australian <strong>Alex Bolt<\/strong> was not able to continue the streak losing to <strong>Matt Reid<\/strong> 7-6 6-4 in the last match of the day.<\/p>\n<p>In other results, New Zealander <strong>Rubin Statham<\/strong> defeated <strong>Luca Vanni<\/strong>, while in the battle of the qualifiers, <strong>Sean Berman<\/strong> defeated <strong>Ivo Klec<\/strong> in three sets.
