{"id":5346,"date":"2013-01-22T08:00:16","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T22:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=5346"},"modified":"2013-01-22T08:00:16","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T22:30:16","slug":"flagstaff-hill-veteran-louise-stacey-is-fighting-to-be-fit-for-the-asia-pacific-tennis-league-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2013\/01\/22\/flagstaff-hill-veteran-louise-stacey-is-fighting-to-be-fit-for-the-asia-pacific-tennis-league-finals","title":{"rendered":"Flagstaff Hill veteran Louise Stacey is fighting to be fit for the Asia-Pacific Tennis League finals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IF FLAGSTAFF Freighters tennis veteran Louise Stacey lines up in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League finals this week she will consider it a major feat<\/p>\n<p>Not because the Magill resident last played at Melbourne Park two decades ago during an Australian Open doubles match.<\/p>\n<p>Nor because the mother of three will be twice as old as many of her ATL teammates and opponents.<br \/>\nStacey, 41, was rushed to hospital last week to have her appendix removed after suffering severe stomach pain the previous day.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of print, Stacey remained unsure if she could recover to play doubles during the Freighters&#8217; finals campaign which kicked off this week.<\/p>\n<p>But she was hopeful of playing a part in the tournament, set to feature the best clubs in Australia and a New Zealand team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s frustrating, really disappointing &#8230; but there&#8217;s nothing I can do about it,&#8221; Stacey said last week.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0&#8220;I don&#8217;t know what I&#8217;ll do yet &#8230; hopefully I&#8217;m all right.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;It&#8217;ll mean a great deal for me to play a part in it but it&#8217;ll just be fantastic for the club to be there.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Stacey&#8217;s tennis journey began as a seven-year-old at courts at Torrensville close to where she grew up.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>She went on to become a star junior, winning the 12-and-under national championships, playing in the Australian Open junior final and sharing the court with future greats Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Her senior professional career, which ended in 1994, included playing in all four Grand Slams.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Wimbledon was special &#8211; to tennis players it is what Olympic Games are to most people,&#8221; Stacey said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Locally, she lost just two matches in SA from 1987-2002 and was ranked No.1 in the state for that entire period.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Earlier this month, she was inducted into the SA Tennis Hall of Fame. \u00a0(Tennis SA Legends Club)<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;It&#8217;s a privilege to be among those greats and it&#8217;s fantastic to be recognised,&#8221; Stacey said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Stacey was appointed the Freighters&#8217; senior coach last year and played doubles as they took out the ATL&#8217;s SA conference in November.<\/div>\n<div>Stacey is unsure whether the ATL finals will be her swansong as a player.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;If it is and we win it&#8217;d be a great way to end,&#8221; she said.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IF FLAGSTAFF Freighters tennis veteran Louise Stacey lines up in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League finals this week she will consider it a major feat<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5915,"featured_media":5347,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5346","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5346","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/5915"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5346"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5346\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5346"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5346"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5346"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
