{"id":4861,"date":"2012-10-22T10:23:34","date_gmt":"2012-10-22T00:53:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=4861"},"modified":"2012-10-22T10:23:34","modified_gmt":"2012-10-22T00:53:34","slug":"2013-world-tennis-challenge-star-signings-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2012\/10\/22\/2013-world-tennis-challenge-star-signings-announced","title":{"rendered":"2013 WTC Star Signings announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA: \u00a0Former World No.1 and seven-time Grand Slam winner <strong>Mats Wilander<\/strong> will join the legendary French Open Champion <strong>Yannick Noah<\/strong>to headline the legend\u2019s field for the 2013 World Tennis Challenge held 8 January 2013 to 10 January 2013 at Memorial Drive, Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>In a coup for event organisers, current ATP stars <strong>Stan Wawrinka <\/strong>[World Ranked #17] and <strong>Alex Dolgopolov<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>[#21]<strong> <\/strong>have also signed to play in Adelaide as they prepare for the 2013 Australian Open main draw.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Crowds will be delighted to hear Australia\u2019s Wimbledon Champion <strong>Pat Cash<\/strong>, \u00a0crowd favorite <strong>Henri Leconte<\/strong> and \u2018the World\u2019s greatest tennis entertainer\u2019 <strong>Mansour Bahrami<\/strong> will again join the strong lineup ensuring the spectators and Fox Sport viewers at home will be kept highly entertained with their astonishing skill and unmatched hilarity.<\/p>\n<p>The World Tennis Challenge, celebrating its fifth anniversary in January, features four current ATP players and four legends who participate in an exhibition team event over three nights at the iconic Memorial Drive, Adelaide.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Whilst, the participation arm of the event, the <strong>Be Active Challenge,<\/strong> continues to be Australia\u2019s largest tennis participation event with over 2,000 people participating over ten days across 11 events.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>Co-Tournament Director<\/strong> <strong>Mark Woodforde<\/strong> is particularly elated with the addition of the popular Noah to the 2013 line-up.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to bring this festival of tennis to Adelaide each year and who better to celebrate our fifth anniversary with us, than a euro rock star such as Yannick Noah who will be making his WTC debut with us in January\u201d.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cIt was Wilander who Noah defeated in the 83\u2019 French Open final \u2013 so we\u2019re anticipating sensational tennis between these great legends\u201d said Woodforde.<\/p>\n<p>Yannick Noah, former No.3 career highlight involved winning the French Open in 1983 and memories will be rekindled \u00a0with Leconte, his champion doubles partner at the 84\u2019 French Open.
