\nJunior Davis Cup Asia\/Oceania Final Qualifying – update<\/em>
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Junior Davis and Fed Cup teams have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia\/Oceania Final Qualifying<\/strong> event in Bendigo.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s boys\u2019 team proved too strong for New Zealand<\/strong> 3-0, before out powering sixth seeds Philippines<\/strong> 2-0 to move through to the next round.<\/p>\n

Thanasi Kokkinakis <\/strong>(Seacombe Heights, SA) defeated New Zealand\u2019s<\/strong> Alex Klintcharov<\/strong> in straight sets 6-1 6-1 this morning before joining Daniel Guccione <\/strong>(Bundoora, Vic) to round out the tie with a 6-2 6-3 win over Klintcharov and William Matheson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Guccione was then back on court to play his first singles rubber for Australia, taking a 6-1 6-1 victory over the Philippines<\/strong>\u2019 Kyle Benjamine Parpan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

South Australia\u2019s Li Tu<\/strong> was pushed to three sets by Jurence Zosimo Mendoza<\/strong> but eventually prevailed to win 4-6 6-1 6-2 to secure the team a berth in the quarterfinals and an opportunity to compete for a place at the World Finals in Spain.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo finish off this morning was terrific and you know to come out this afternoon against the other seed in the group [Philippines], Dan was just too strong and Li had to respond,\u201d said Junior Davis Cup Captain<\/strong> Mark Woodforde.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was good for him to be pushed. In a sense you like them to feel a bit of pressure for what lies ahead because that\u2019s going to happen, whether it\u2019s tomorrow or the day after.<\/p>\n

\u201cLi was able to really work out, take a bit of time, change up his way of playing and came out victorious again. So there was some good smart play by him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas<\/strong> is an international team event fo<\/em>r boys and girls aged 16 and under.<\/p>\n

Qualifying events are played in Asia\/Oceania, Europe, South America, North\/Central America and Africa to determine the top sixteen teams. The top four qualifiers from the Asia\/Oceania group will go on to compete in the World Final in Barcelona, Spain in late September.<\/p>\n

Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia\/Oceania Final Qualifying<\/strong> is taking place at the Bendigo Tennis Association<\/strong>, Nolan Street, Bendigo, Victoria from 24-29 April. Entry is free.<\/p>\n

Countries competing in Bendigo are as follows: Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand <\/strong>and Uzbekistan.<\/strong>
