Rinky Hijikata<\/strong> (NSW) and Maddison Inglis<\/strong> (WA) are the 2024 City of Playford Tennis International champions after taking out the singles titles in Elizabeth East, South Australia today.<\/p>\n

No.1 seed Hijikata<\/strong> defeated Japan\u2019s Yuta Shimizu<\/strong> 6-4 7-6[4] in a battle that lasted just over two hours to be crowned the Men\u2019s Singles Champion of the City of Playford Tennis International for the second time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a tough final,\u201d Hijikata admitted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just glad to get through it and happy to be back at Playford. I actually won my first challenger title here two years ago so I love coming back, seems to be a great place for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to everyone who put the tournament on, it was a great crowd out here today\u201d Hijikata finished.<\/p>\n

On the women\u2019s side, Western Australian No.3 seed Maddison Inglis<\/strong> took home the champion title in a three-set thriller that lasted just shy of three hours. Inglis dominated in the third set to defeat Japanese opponent and No.5 seed Himeno Sakatsume <\/strong>7-6[7] 5-7 6-1.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was such a tough match, we always have such tough matches\u201d, Inglis exclaimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to play some of my best tennis to beat [Sakatsume], she\u2019s playing unbelievable so I was lucky to bring some of my best tennis today, I think in a very long time, so I\u2019m super happy with that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always love coming back to Playford and I find I play some really good tennis here\u201d Inglis said.<\/p>\n

The energy and excitement were palpable, as families and fans came together to celebrate this spectacular event. It was a fitting conclusion to a week of outstanding competition and entertainment.<\/p>\n
