{"id":32735,"date":"2024-10-24T18:39:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T08:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=32735"},"modified":"2024-10-24T18:39:03","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T08:09:03","slug":"aussie-showdown-as-day-5-of-the-city-of-playford-tennis-international-comes-to-a-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2024\/10\/24\/aussie-showdown-as-day-5-of-the-city-of-playford-tennis-international-comes-to-a-close","title":{"rendered":"Aussie showdown as day 5 of the city of Playford Tennis International comes to a close"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Day 5 has officially concluded at the <strong>City of Playford International<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There were plenty of Aussies hitting the court with Australian No.1 seed <strong>Rinky Hijikata<\/strong> (NSW) defeating fellow Aussie <strong>Dane Sweeny<\/strong> (NSW) 6-4 6-3, while South Aussie\u00a0<strong>Li Tu<\/strong> advanced through to the Quarterfinals defeating <strong>Philip Sekulic<\/strong>\u00a0(Qld) 6-4 6-2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yuta Shimizu<\/strong> (JPN) defeated Lucky Loser <strong>Yuki Mochizuki<\/strong> (JPN) to advance through to the Quarterfinals and joining him is No.7 seed <strong>Omar Jasika<\/strong> (Vic) after his win 6-3 6-3 against<strong> Christian Langmo<\/strong> (USA).<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s draw saw an epic line up with four Aussies in action to kick off the morning, Western Australian No.2 seed <strong>Taylah Preston<\/strong> was victorious against <strong>Naho Sato<\/strong> (JPN) 6-1 6-2, and fellow Western Australian No.1 seed <strong>Talia Gibson<\/strong> defeated\u00a0<strong>Elena Micic<\/strong>\u00a0(Vic) 6-2 6-4.\u00a0 Meanwhile South Australia&#8217;s <strong>Petra Hule<\/strong> advances through to the Quarterfinals after defeating Victoria&#8217;s <strong>Belle Thompson<\/strong> 6-4 6-1.<\/p>\n<p>No.3 seed <strong>Maddison Inglis<\/strong>\u00a0(WA) will be joining in the Quarterfinals action after defeating<strong>\u00a0Erika Sema<\/strong> (JPN) in straight sets. In similar events, No.4 seed <strong>Destanee Aiava<\/strong>\u00a0was also successful in a straight set victory over<strong> Alexandra Bozovic<\/strong> (AUS); while No.5 seed <strong>Himeno Sakatsume<\/strong>\u00a0(JPN) advanced through to the Quarterfinals following her 6-0 7-5 win over <strong>Mia Horvit<\/strong> (USA).<\/p>\n<p>Double&#8217;s action saw a thrilling win for Aussies <strong>Calum Puttergill<\/strong> and <strong>Dane Sweeny<\/strong> as they claimed victory in a tiebreaker 6-4 6[4]-7 [16-14]. Aussie duo\u00a0<strong>Blake Ellis<\/strong> and <strong>Thomas Fancutt,<\/strong>\u00a0Japan&#8217;s <strong>Seita Watanabe<\/strong> and <strong>Takeru Yuzuki<\/strong>, and Aussie brothers <strong>Jake Delaney<\/strong> and <strong>Jesse Delaney<\/strong>\u00a0also came out on top in their matches.\u00a0In the women&#8217;s doubles, Aussies <strong>Lizette Cabrera<\/strong>\u00a0(Qld) and <strong>Taylah Preston <\/strong>(WA), <strong>Alexandra Bozovic<\/strong>\u00a0(NSW) and <strong>Petra Hule<\/strong> (SA) have all progressed through to the semifinals.
