{"id":28986,"date":"2023-07-04T23:16:20","date_gmt":"2023-07-04T13:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=28986"},"modified":"2023-07-12T06:16:26","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T20:46:26","slug":"vale-barry-phillips-moore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2023\/07\/04\/vale-barry-phillips-moore","title":{"rendered":"Vale Barry Phillips-Moore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South Australian Tennis family is mourning the loss of Barry Phillips-Moore on Thursday 29 June 2023 at the age of 85.<\/p>\n<p>Phillips-Moore was a top junior in the 1950s, reaching a career high Australian junior ranking of No.2 in 1956. He went on to reach a career high men\u2019s ranking of Australian No.3 and world No.20 in 1968 during the golden era of Australian tennis, playing alongside the likes of Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Fred Stolle, John Newcombe and Tony Roche.<\/p>\n<p>He reached the singles semifinals of the Australian Championships in 1961 and 1968, was a Grand Slam doubles quarterfinalist on nine occasions and Grand Slam mixed doubles quarterfinalist on three. He was named in the Australian Davis Cup Squad in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>Following his playing career, Phillips-Moore went on to travel extensively, coaching and introducing many junior players to the international circuit.
