{"id":28790,"date":"2023-05-25T03:03:25","date_gmt":"2023-05-24T17:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=28790"},"modified":"2023-05-25T03:03:25","modified_gmt":"2023-05-24T17:33:25","slug":"andriana-petrakis-named-in-australian-tennis-pwii-team-for-virtus-global-games-in-france-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2023\/05\/25\/andriana-petrakis-named-in-australian-tennis-pwii-team-for-virtus-global-games-in-france-next-month","title":{"rendered":"Andriana Petrakis named in Australian Tennis PWII team for Virtus Global Games in France next month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australia\u2019s top tennis players with an intellectual impairment (PWII) have been announced for the upcoming prestigious <strong>Virtus Global Games <\/strong>in Vichy, France.<\/p>\n<p>South Australia&#8217;s <strong>Andriana Petrakis<\/strong> has been named in the team, and will be joined by South Australian coach <strong>Lance Everett<\/strong>, for the tournament which will take place from 4-10 June 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The Virtus Global Games are the world\u2019s largest elite sports event for athletes with an intellectual impairment, and only takes place every four years. Australia won the last tournament when it was held in Brisbane in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Petrakis will be joined by Australian II-1 Women\u2019s Singles No.1 player <strong>Kelly Wren <\/strong>(NSW), along with <strong>Carla Lenarduzzi <\/strong>(Vic) and\u00a0<strong>Breanna Tunny <\/strong>(Qld) in the women\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n<p>Australian II-1 Men\u2019s Singles No.1 player <strong>Archie Graham <\/strong>(Qld) will be joined by <strong>Mitchell James<\/strong> (Qld), <strong>Luke Barker <\/strong>(Qld), <strong>Damian Phillips <\/strong>(NSW), <strong>Timothy Gould <\/strong>(Qld), <strong>Hunter Thompson<\/strong> (Qld) and <strong>Simon Ma <\/strong>(NSW) in the men\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s team is a big team, and we are really proud of that,\u201d said Head Coach <strong>Alison Scott<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been world champions since 2015, so we are very confident going overseas. The team is very well prepared and well trained, which is brilliant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the first year players in the II-3 category, which is players on the autism spectrum, have been able to compete in the games, and we are excited to take two players from this category overseas to compete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been really looking forward to this moment, because we feel Australia is ahead of the game in the II-3 category. We have been really supporting players on the autism spectrum in Australia, so we are so excited to have this opportunity, and hopefully we can build on this and grow more competition from here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australian II-1 Women\u2019s Singles No. 3 player Tunny said \u201cI\u2019m thrilled. I\u2019m so ecstatic to be travelling with my team overseas.
