{"id":26833,"date":"2022-07-22T17:51:55","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T08:21:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=26833"},"modified":"2022-07-22T17:54:18","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T08:24:18","slug":"city-of-playford-tennis-international-to-return-in-october1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2022\/07\/22\/city-of-playford-tennis-international-to-return-in-october1","title":{"rendered":"City of Playford Tennis International to return in October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<strong>City of Playford Tennis International <\/strong>will return to Playford Tennis Centre from Sunday 23 to Sunday 30 October 2022, after a three year hiatus.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian Pro Tour event, a combined Men\u2019s ATP Challenger and Women\u2019s ITF World Tennis Tour tournament, will offer a total prize pool of more than AUD $200,000 and valuable world ranking points.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis SA and Tennis Australia will host the tournament in conjunction with the City of Playford, TennisGear and Playford Tennis Club.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, the likes of 2022 Wimbledon champion <strong>Elena Rybakina<\/strong>, 2019 US Open champion <strong>Bianca Andreescu<\/strong>, 2022 Roland Garros finalist <strong>Casper Ruud<\/strong> and home-grown hero, 2018 champion <strong>Jason Kubler <\/strong>have competed at this event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to have the Australian Pro Tour return to the Playford Tennis Centre in 2022,\u201d Tennis Australia\u2019s Head of Professional Events and Officiating <strong>Isabelle Gemmel <\/strong>said.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City of Playford Tennis International has built a reputation over the years as a tournament which the players really enjoy competing at and provides an ideal lead-in for players preparing for the Australian summer of tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty<\/strong>\u00a0says the tournament in the heart of Playford\u2019s Sports Precinct will be one of the highlights of the city\u2019s sporting calendar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Council is delighted to see the return of international, elite-level tennis to the City of Playford,\u201d Docherty said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is exciting to see a tournament of this calibre being held outside of a major, capital city. We are able to host the Pro Tour in Playford thanks to the state-of-the-art facilities at the Playford Tennis Centre, which was constructed in 2017 and caters for grassroots participation right through to professional competition. It is one of just a few venues in Australia capable of hosting concurrent women\u2019s and men\u2019s events which is something we are very proud of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to welcoming competitors from near and far and I encourage locals to attend the free event.
