{"id":26145,"date":"2022-05-03T15:44:13","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T06:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=26145"},"modified":"2022-05-03T15:44:13","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T06:14:13","slug":"annual-tennis-sa-awards-night-celebrates-tennis-community-in-style","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2022\/05\/03\/annual-tennis-sa-awards-night-celebrates-tennis-community-in-style","title":{"rendered":"Annual Tennis SA Awards Night celebrates tennis community in style"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Golden Grove<\/strong> (City\/Hills) and <strong>Barmera<\/strong> (Rural) have been announced as South Australia\u2019s <strong>Most Outstanding Tennis Clubs <\/strong>in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>While professional athletes<strong> Thanasi Kokkinakis <\/strong>and<strong> Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz<\/strong>\u00a0were awarded South Australia\u2019s most prestigious player awards, the<strong> Burr <\/strong>and<strong> Boyce Medals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The awards among others were presented at the Tennis SA Awards Night held at the Adelaide Convention Centre in front of 330 attendees on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tennis SA Awards Night was a wonderful celebration of the achievements of our players, coaches, clubs, communities, volunteers and officials over the past 12 months,\u201d Tennis SA CEO <strong>Debbie Sterrey<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe past two years have been incredibly difficult for us all, but it is fantastic to see the way our tennis family has come together to offer opportunities for everyone to get involved in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur congratulations to all of the award winners and finalists, we are very proud of you all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Golden Grove Tennis Club<\/strong> prides itself on its welcoming and friendly atmosphere, ensuring that all players are valued, included and given the best opportunity to develop their game. Participation numbers continue to grow through coaching and the variety of programs on offer.<\/p>\n<p>Golden Grove Tennis Club President <strong>Craig Mousley<\/strong> was excited to accept the award on behalf of the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to have won the Most Outstanding Tennis Club award for the City and Hills,\u201d Mousley said. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is great to recognise all of the clubs doing great work out there in the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA key achievement for us has been building our new clubhouse. It\u2019s the first clubhouse that we\u2019ve had in our 100 year existence and our volunteers have worked tirelessly to utilise the venue, holding a variety of events for our members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have focussed heavily on supporting our local community this year and it means a lot to be recognised for that work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>Barmera Tennis Club<\/strong>, this award is recognition for their dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure the club is able to host a variety of tournaments, competitions and events. Facility improvements have been a recent focus for the club to ensure long term sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely proud to win this award, not just for the club, but also representing the Riverland,\u201d Barmera Tennis Club President <strong>Justin Bannear<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are a small club, of just over 100 members. We are really proud of our facilities, we are 100% volunteer driven and this is just nice recognition for the work that we put in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reade Park Lawn<\/strong> and <strong>Warradale Park<\/strong> <strong>Tennis Clubs<\/strong> were contenders for the City\/Hills accolade, whilst <strong>Cudlee Creek Tennis Club <\/strong>was a finalist in the rural category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ron Russo<\/strong>\u00a0was inducted into the South Australian Legends Club, with <strong>Peter Smith<\/strong> and <strong>Kent Thiele<\/strong> inducted as Tennis SA Life Members.<\/p>\n<p>Kempenaers-Pocz also took home the <strong>Gwen Thiele Memorial Trophy<\/strong> for most outstanding 18-and-under female, while <strong>Edward Winter<\/strong>\u00a0won the <strong>Don Turnbull Memorial Trophy <\/strong>for most outstanding 18-and-under male.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>City of Playford <\/strong>won the award for <strong>Most Outstanding Council or Government Department<\/strong>, while 14-year-old <strong>Ethan Cook<\/strong> was announced as the <strong>Most Outstanding Player with a Disability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Domenic Marafiote<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Sam Wall <\/strong>were dual winners of the <strong>Coaching Excellence &#8211; Development <\/strong>award, while<strong> David Grainger<\/strong>\u00a0took home the <strong>Coaching Excellence &#8211; Club<\/strong> award. <strong>Torrens Valley Christian School <\/strong>was named the <strong>Most Outstanding School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The full list of award
