The new look\u00a02022 Competitive Play Calendar,<\/strong>\u00a0driving player centric development pathways and level-based competitive playing opportunities across the country, using the\u00a0Universal Tennis UTR Rating<\/strong>\u00a0as the new official rating system of Australia has been revealed. The changes are the culmination of an extensive\u00a0Competitive Play Review<\/strong>\u00a0and consultation which began in August 2020 and is guided by findings of the\u00a0Competitive Play Blueprint<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A player\u2019s development is benefited by competing in a well-balanced schedule of singles, doubles and team-based offerings throughout the year. Each format of our game offers players the opportunity to develop and focus on different skillsets, allowing them to achieve their best standard possible.<\/p>\n

Aiming to ensure tennis attracts and retains players of all abilities while also developing future champions, the long-term health of tennis in Australia remains at the forefront of Tennis Australia priorities.<\/p>\n

From 1 January 2022, the UTR Rating will be integrated across the Competitive Play calendar to help determine a player\u2019s ability and to help players, parents and coaches to better identify the events and leagues best aligned to the player\u2019s level.<\/p>\n

The UTR Rating will be incrementally introduced into selected Inter-Club, League and Team Tennis offerings throughout 2022 as the National Ratings System\u00a0is gradually phased out.<\/p>\n

In 2022, each event will offer different draw formats with some events using age-based draws and other using purely rating based draws. This flexibility means you\u2019ll play a varying range of opponents across all events. Events also have the option of offering Elimination, Compass or Round Robin Draws ensuring more matches at each event allowing you to always have an accurate UTR.<\/p>\n

We encourage all participants to check the tournament fact sheet prior to entering to learn which Draw and Scoring Format each event has chosen.<\/p>\n

How is the UTR Calculated? <\/u><\/p>\n

For each match, the algorithm calculates a match rating and a match weight for each player. A player\u2019s UTR Rating is the weighted average of up to 30 of their most recent match ratings. Only matches within the last 12 months count toward a player\u2019s UTR Rating.<\/p>\n

How to improve your UTR? <\/u><\/p>\n

Play Well<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Performing well in matches is the easiest way to improve your UTR Rating. If the match is out of hand, don\u2019t give up! It does not matter whether you play higher- or lower-rated opponents; you can improve your UTR Rating either way by winning more games than expected.<\/p>\n

Play Often<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The more matches you play, the quicker your UTR Rating will reflect your current form. The algorithm is especially accurate for those who play often against a variety of opponents rated above and below you.<\/p>\n

Be Patient<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Since your UTR Rating is a rolling weighted average, the effect of new results is slightly lagged. Your UTR Rating may not fully reflect a recent outcome right away, but it will over time.<\/p>\n

Nationals Qualification Criteria<\/u><\/p>\n

12\/u and 14\/u age groups must meet a minimum of 2 of the below criteria (depending on your place of residence) to be eligible to play in National Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
