{"id":23364,"date":"2021-08-05T15:03:39","date_gmt":"2021-08-05T05:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=23364"},"modified":"2021-08-05T15:03:39","modified_gmt":"2021-08-05T05:33:39","slug":"volunteers-and-clubs-of-the-month-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2021\/08\/05\/volunteers-and-clubs-of-the-month-august","title":{"rendered":"Volunteers and Clubs of the Month &#8211; August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CLUBS OF THE MONTH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Peake Gardens-Riverside Tennis Club<\/strong> has continued to notch a few impressive wins of late despite being a traditionally slower time of the year for the sport.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the club acquired a healthy dose of grant funding through ORSR to the tune of $959,750 which will enable them to rebuild their clubrooms, including new female and male changerooms, toilets, kitchen and bar facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, July was also a rather hectic month for the Club in hosting the City of West Torrens Gold AMT, which saw players 12 years\/over competing for prize money. The AMT attracted 78 players and an additional 20 players in the 10\/under event which ran in conjunction with the AMT.<\/p>\n<p>While the event ran for five days during the recent July school holidays, the final, fifth day was unfortunately \u2018washed out\u2019 so the finals weren\u2019t able to take place!<\/p>\n<p>Tennis SA looks forward to working further with the committee, spearheaded by long-serving President Jeff Ramm, to oversee their development and also bring the Club online through ClubSpark and grow further avenues to increase participation at their venue over the ensuing summer months.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations <em>Peake Gardens-Riverside Tennis Club!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Naracoorte Tennis Club<\/strong> has experienced a raft of exciting developments over the past 4 months, notably their recent acquisition of the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots $10,000 grant which will assist in refurbishing and maintaining courts at their facility.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the tennis club, Naracoorte Netball Club have also been successful under round 2 of the SA Office for Sport, Recreation and Racing\u2019s Infrastructure grant scheme for court resurfacing. \u00a0Both sets of funding will assist the Club to continue growing its hugely successful Community Play program run by Club volunteers. During the 2020\/21 summer season, more than 100 kids participated in the Community Play program, a record for the regional club.<\/p>\n<p>Club Secretary Caroline Redding said that the club hopes to build on these numbers during the 2021\/22 season with a wonderful team of volunteer coaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is really great to see so many kids playing tennis on a Saturday morning and to see all of our 18 courts full.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis is such an amazing sport for bringing people together and is one that you can play as a kid and then continue on through adulthood. Here at Naracoorte, we strive to provide the best opportunities for our kids.\u201d Caroline boasts.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations <em>Naracoorte Tennis Club<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Displaying 8 years of dedication, <strong>Ros Pridham <\/strong>as been involved in Morphettville Park Tennis Club since 2013. In this period, Ros has contributed to the club as Secretary, and more recently, has stepped into the role of President.<\/p>\n<p>In Ros\u2019 first year on the committee, she assisted with finalizing the installation of lighting at the club, which would see to be successor that enabled social tennis to come to life at Morphettville Park Tennis Club. The club also\u00a0run \u2018Men\u2019s Shed\u2019 which is Fast 4 tennis format that provides an avenue for men to discuss mental illness issues, as well as weekly Cardio tennis which provide a chance to play tennis, socialise and have fun.<\/p>\n<p>Ros also assisted in the set up of Book-A-Court, which impacted the club\u2019s income and participation as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Ros loves volunteering and being a part of the club, a role she would recommend to anyone looking to give back to their local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018If you have the passion for the game and can devote a few hours a week or month, any Club would appreciate more input and different points of view and to share ideas.\u201d, says Ros.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t be shy if you\u2019ve got ideas, as something may not have been tried before and it provides an opportunity to talk about different approaches to things going on at the Club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations <em>Ros Pridham<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Providing a wealth of expertise,<strong> Alex Nicholls<\/strong> currently resides as the Secretary of Clare Tennis Club.
