{"id":22582,"date":"2021-04-07T10:00:40","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T00:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=22582"},"modified":"2021-04-07T11:02:22","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T01:32:22","slug":"construction-begins-for-memorial-drive-centre-court-stage-two-redevelopment-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2021\/04\/07\/construction-begins-for-memorial-drive-centre-court-stage-two-redevelopment-2","title":{"rendered":"Construction begins for Memorial Drive Centre Court stage two redevelopment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing\u00a0<strong>Corey Wingard<\/strong>\u00a0joined Tennis SA CEO <strong>Debbie Sterrey<\/strong>\u00a0on Tuesday to launch construction of the Memorial Drive Centre Court stage two redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister and Ms Sterrey, along with Tennis SA President\u00a0<strong>Kent Thiele<\/strong>, Vice-President\u00a0<strong>Philip Roberts<\/strong> and four up-and-coming junior tennis players, were present to turn the sod on the project.<\/p>\n<p>The Memorial Drive redevelopment stage two project includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The demolition of the\u00a0<strong>North Stand<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Construction of new\u00a0<strong>Northern<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Eastern Facilities<\/strong>\u00a0linked by a concourse level, with enhanced patron amenities, food and beverage facilities<\/li>\n<li><strong>Northern Facility<\/strong>\u00a0to include a\u00a0<strong>Media and Sports Technology Centre<\/strong>, with broadcast facilities, media lounge and space for\u00a0<strong>high performance sports research\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>development<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Eastern Facility<\/strong>\u00a0to be integrated with the Adelaide Oval Southern Plaza, incorporating\u00a0<strong>high performance training<\/strong>\u00a0facilities,\u00a0<strong>premium multipurpose event<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>function\u00a0spaces<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Northern<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Eastern Facilities<\/strong>\u00a0fully accessible to all levels<\/li>\n<li>Addition of rigging points on the roof and\u00a0<strong>feature lighting<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cTennis events in South Australia over the next decade are going to drive jobs and vibrancy in our city,\u201d Minister Wingard said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to see works getting underway just a few months after the funding was secured in last year\u2019s State Budget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStage Two of the Memorial Drive redevelopment will create a world class venue that can accommodate a range of sporting and entertainment events helping position SA as a premier sporting and event destination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tennis SA CEO\u00a0Debbie Sterrey\u00a0is excited to see construction commence at Memorial Drive and the home of Tennis SA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to officially turn the sod on the $44 million stage two redevelopment of Memorial Drive,\u201d Sterrey said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe redevelopment will continue the transformation of our venue and see it achieve its potential as a vibrant sporting, community, entertainment and innovation hub, whilst ensuring the venue\u2019s heritage is retained for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemolition of the North Stand is nearing completion and we are excited to see the redevelopment take shape in the coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade will allow Memorial Drive to host a wider variety of community, sporting and entertainment events, as well as make the venue an attractive proposition for other high profile tennis events such as Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup).<\/p>\n<p>The venue will be event ready for the Adelaide International in January 2022, with project completion expected in mid-2022.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the Memorial Drive Centre Court redevelopment, visit:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2LO0AxS\">http:\/\/bit.ly\/2LO0AxS<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing\u00a0Corey Wingard\u00a0joined Tennis SA CEO Debbie Sterrey\u00a0on Tuesday to launch construction of the Memorial Drive Centre Court stage two redevelopment.
