{"id":22116,"date":"2021-02-06T10:57:53","date_gmt":"2021-02-06T00:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=22116"},"modified":"2021-02-06T10:57:55","modified_gmt":"2021-02-06T00:27:55","slug":"charity-gets-back-on-court-this-sunday-in-adelaide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2021\/02\/06\/charity-gets-back-on-court-this-sunday-in-adelaide","title":{"rendered":"Charity gets back on court this Sunday in Adelaide"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Former Tennis Australia strength and conditioning coach, Daniel Buberis, has launched the Ray White Glenelg \u2018South East Asia Community Family Tennis Fun Day\u2019 to raise funds for orphanages and at-risk youth in the Philippines and Cambodia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working through his Australian-based charity foundation, Project 6, Daniel\u2019s fundraiser will take place this Sunday, 7 February from 1.00 pm &#8211; 4.00 pm at the Peake Gardens Riverside Tennis Club in Adelaide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone is\nwelcome and money raised will support children who find themselves in\ncircumstances much like Daniel did at the start of his own life; living in an orphanage\non the outskirts of Manila, in the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSunday is about\nbringing together the community in the name of sport, culture and raising\nawareness of children living in extreme poverty,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProject 6 has the\naim of improving the lives of children who become orphaned, are living on the\nstreet, or who don\u2019t have stability at home due to illness or the premature\nloss of a family member. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know that\nthrough participation in sports like tennis, and in programs that provide physical\nactivity and education, the social and emotional well-being of children is\ndramatically improved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officially founded\nat the end of 2018, Project 6 has already made an impact on the lives of\nhundreds of children in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the orphanages,\nschools and universities that Project 6 has partnered with so far in the\nPhilippines, and with the Mission in Battambang, Cambodia, the resources that\nwe take for granted in Australia, do not necessarily exist,\u201d explains Daniel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe aim to change\nthat by developing curriculums, donating equipment and employing local coaches,\nso that underprivileged kids can create better life outcomes through sport,\njust like I did.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunday\u2019s fundraising\nevent marks the foundation\u2019s first since the global pandemic began, but that\ndoesn\u2019t mean Daniel stood still in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While bringing on\nnew commercial and community partners for the foundation, including Adelaide accounting\nfirm Oreon and the Port Adelaide Football Club, he also found support in the\nPhilippines from legendary boxer, Manny Pacquiao. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After meeting in\n2019, the Filipino senator and 12-time world champion, agreed to put his name\nto a winter beanie fundraiser last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to\nus as a foundation that we\u2019re getting support and recognition at such a high\nlevel, despite the current limitations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been\ndifficult given that we haven\u2019t been able to travel to the regions where we\u2019ve\nalready formed important partnerships, but the outreach has continued.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cManny Pacquaio is\na legend who is doing a lot for the poorest of the poor in his home country, especially\nduring COVID, so to have our beanies out there for sale in support of his work\nand ours, makes us very proud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting at 1.00 pm on Sunday, the Ray White Glenelg South East Asia Community Family Tennis Fun Day will feature food from the Central Market\u2019s Little Khmer Kitchen and Azon\u2019s Filipino Kitchen. There will also be live entertainment from the local Cambodian and Filipino communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A come \u2018n\u2019 try ANZ Tennis Hot Shots tournament for kids will be held, there will be coaching for adults, and an exhibition match will be played featuring some of SA\u2019s best talent, namely Australian Open wildcard, Li Tu and previous 14\/u national champion, Alex Despoja. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also look out for giveaways and heaps of sporty activities to get involved in. Donation entry is $5 per adult, $3 for children under 15 and a $15 Family Pass is available for 2 adults and 3 children.
