{"id":19702,"date":"2020-01-25T10:32:43","date_gmt":"2020-01-25T00:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=19702"},"modified":"2020-01-27T11:29:50","modified_gmt":"2020-01-27T00:59:50","slug":"south-australians-begin-australian-open-juniors-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2020\/01\/25\/south-australians-begin-australian-open-juniors-campaign","title":{"rendered":"South Australians begin Australian Open Juniors campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Natasha Russell<\/strong>, <strong>Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz <\/strong>and <strong>Edward Winter<\/strong>\u00a0will take part in the Australian Open Junior Championships at Melbourne Park, starting today.<\/p>\n<p>All three players will be making their singles debut at the tournament after being awarded wildcards, following strong results throughout 2019<\/p>\n<p>Seventeen-year-old Russell made the final of the 18\/u Australian Championships in December and reached a career high junior ranking of 153 in the first week of January. Russell will take on Slovenia\u2019s <strong>Pia Lovric <\/strong>in the first round.<\/p>\n<p>Fifteen-year-old Kempenaers-Pocz comes in to the tournament having won the 18\/u Australian Championships against Russell and after pushing world No.89 <strong>Vitalia Diatchenko<\/strong> (RUS) during a strong WTA Tour singles qualifying debut at last week\u2019s Adelaide International. Kempenaers-Pocz will take on <strong>Elizabeth Coleman <\/strong>(USA) in the first round.<\/p>\n<p>Winter, also 15, made his ATP Tour singles qualifying debut against world No.76 <strong>Federico Delbonis<\/strong> (ARG) at the Adelaide International. Winter also reached the quarterfinals of the 16\/u Australian Championship in December and is set to play <strong>Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard<\/strong> (FRA) in his opening round match.<\/p>\n<p>Kempenaers-Pocz, Russell and Winter join a strong list of South Australians taking part in the Australian Open 2020, including <strong>Lleyton Hewitt <\/strong>(Adelaide, SA),<strong> Alex Bolt <\/strong>(Murray Bridge, SA), <strong>Luke Saville <\/strong>(Cobdogla, SA),\u00a0<strong>Amber Marshall <\/strong>(Gulfview Heights, SA), <strong>Edward Vo<\/strong> (Croydon Park, SA) and <strong>Jasmine Adams<\/strong> (Chandlers Hill, SA).<\/p>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ausopen.com\">ausopen.com<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Natasha Russell, Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz and Edward Winter\u00a0will take part in the Australian Open Junior Championships at Melbourne Park, starting today.
