{"id":19592,"date":"2019-12-07T10:49:14","date_gmt":"2019-12-07T00:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=19592"},"modified":"2019-12-07T11:08:46","modified_gmt":"2019-12-07T00:38:46","slug":"south-australia-brings-home-three-trophies-from-2019-newcombe-medal-australian-tennis-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2019\/12\/07\/south-australia-brings-home-three-trophies-from-2019-newcombe-medal-australian-tennis-awards","title":{"rendered":"South Australia brings home three trophies from 2019 Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Australia took home three awards at the 2019 <strong>Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards<\/strong> held at the Crown Palladium, in Melbourne on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>On a night that recognises players, coaches, clubs, communities, volunteers and officials for their service to the sport, South Australia took out the <em>Volunteer Achievement Award<\/em>, the <em>Most Outstanding School <\/em>and the <em>Most Outstanding Professional Tournament <\/em>awards, in front of the who\u2019s who of the Australian tennis family.<\/p>\n<p>After 30 years with Henley South Tennis Club, <strong>Darren Wunderer <\/strong>(Lockleys, SA) was announced as a very deserving winner of the Volunteer Achievement Award, seeing this award return to South Australia for the second year running.<\/p>\n<p>Wunderer\u2019s involvement has been critical to the modernisation, sustained success and culture of the Henley South Tennis Club.\u00a0 More recently, Darren has been both a tireless volunteer as well as mentor to Club Presidents, the Executive Committee and new club members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have such a great club for the local community. Henley South won the Most Outstanding Club award last year, so it\u2019s gone from strength-to-strength and it\u2019s just been a wonderful journey,\u201d Wunderer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have done a lot of volunteering over the years, but you don\u2019t mind doing it when you have good success. The club is in a good position and I wouldn\u2019t do anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-standard-landscape wp-image-19600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/files\/2019\/12\/A19I0299-700x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/files\/2019\/12\/A19I0299-700x450.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/files\/2019\/12\/A19I0299-360x230.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/files\/2019\/12\/A19I0299-200x128.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Principal <strong>Graham Wood <\/strong>and Physical Education Teacher<strong> Gavin Browne <\/strong>were thrilled to accept the Most Outstanding School award and a $5000 grant on behalf of<strong> Elizabeth North Primary School<\/strong> (Elizabeth North, SA). The school offers every student from reception to Year 7 with the opportunity to be involved in tennis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be chosen as the winning school is a real honour for our entire community.
