Words by Neville Hay<\/em><\/p>\n In 1952, two good friends, George Tigell and Graham Robinson, both from Kingaroy (a small town approx. 200km North\/West of Brisbane), decided to attend the Davis Cup Challenge Round in Adelaide.\u00a0This trip required some organising.<\/p>\n Firstly, the tickets had to be\u00a0purchased though Tennis Queensland.<\/p>\n Secondly, the trip from Kingaroy to Adelaide was a big distance (via Bourke) – nearly 2000km!, and the only sealed roads would be through the centre of towns. They allowed seven days each way for the journey. They camped out on the side of the road every night.<\/p>\n On arrival in Adelaide they booked into a hotel and found out it belonged to a relative of Don Candy (who was either a member or practice partner for the Davis Cup Team).<\/p>\n The two tickets belonged to Graham Robinson, who was ill on the first two days and could only attend the last day.\u00a0When Graham returned home, he kept the tickets in a safe spot and they were discovered when he passed away in 2014.<\/p>\n How keen were tennis followers in those days!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Thank you to Neville Hay of Carseldine QLD, who wrote to the Board of Tennis SA recently with the following unique story about two very committed David Cup fans!
