{"id":18292,"date":"2019-06-29T13:10:59","date_gmt":"2019-06-29T03:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=18292"},"modified":"2019-06-29T13:10:59","modified_gmt":"2019-06-29T03:40:59","slug":"south-australian-teams-announced-for-australian-teams-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2019\/06\/29\/south-australian-teams-announced-for-australian-teams-championships","title":{"rendered":"South Australian teams announced for Australian Teams Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tennis SA is thrilled to announce the 11\/u and 13\/u teams set to compete in the <strong>Australian Teams Championships<\/strong> being held at KDV Sport in Carrara, Queensland starting tomorrow, Sunday 30 June 2019 to Thursday 4 July 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-nine elite girls\u2019 and boys\u2019 teams will compete, representing each Australian state with players also travelling from Japan, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Pacific Oceania for the five day tournament.<\/p>\n<p>South Australia has an impressive history in the event, with the likes of <strong>Alicia Molik, Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/strong> and <strong>Luke Saville<\/strong> having represented the state.<\/p>\n<p>South Australia begins the tournament as reigning champions for the Sproule Stephens Cup, after the 14\/u boys\u2019 team consisting of <strong>Ralph Catipay, Alexander Despoja, Doni Gashi<\/strong> and <strong>Edward Winter<\/strong> claimed the title in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian Teams Championships will be played as the sport enjoys a spike in profile following Ash Barty\u2019s rise to the top of the world rankings and winning her maiden Grand Slam singles title at the French Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to announce the South Australian teams competing in the Australian Teams Championships,\u201d said Tennis SA Talent Development Manager <strong>Andrew Waters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth Australia has had great success in this event in the past, including winning the Sproule Stephens Cup in 2018.
