The 2019 12\/u and 14\/u Australian Claycourt Championships<\/strong> have concluded today with the national champions crowned at the Canberra Tennis Centre.<\/p>\n

The event featured 128 of Australia\u2019s most promising junior tennis players battling it out for national titles, with today\u2019s champions joining Ashleigh Barty <\/strong>(Qld), Marc Polmans <\/strong>(Vic), Destanee Aiava <\/strong>(Vic), Jaimee Fourlis<\/strong> (Vic), Akira Santillan<\/strong> (Qld) and Luke Saville <\/strong>(SA) as winners of the event.<\/p>\n

In the 12-and-under championships, top seed, Gloria Jovic <\/strong>(NSW) claimed the girl\u2019s title defeating Mahi Khore <\/strong>(Vic) 6-3 6-1, while second seed Hayden Jones <\/strong>(Qld) was too strong for third seed Gautham<\/strong> Santhosh <\/strong>(Qld), winning 6-4 6-4.\u00a0 Both Jovic and Jones were in solid form all week, with neither player dropping a set throughout the tournament.<\/p>\n

The 14-and-under championships were both closely contested finals, with Jessica-Jade Haylo <\/strong>(Qld) coming from behind to defeat Thamara Frasser <\/strong>(Qld), while top seed Edward Winter <\/strong>(SA) edged out Jiayang Dong <\/strong>(NSW) 4-6 6-3 7-5.<\/p>\n

Winter claimed both the singles and doubles, with the victory especially sweet after falling in the finals of the same event in 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really pleased with my effort this week and it\u2019s really exciting,\u201d Winter said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a really tough loss last year, so it\u2019s good to finally get the win in another three set match.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 14-year-old will focus on improving his game in 2019 with his sights set on the junior events at Australian Open 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI would probably like to play Australian Open juniors main draw next year which would be my main goal,\u201d Winter continued.<\/p>\n

It was a special week for Jovic who also claimed the doubles title with Yelena Kelleher<\/strong> (WA).<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always dreamt of winning a nationals and it is really amazing that my dreams have come true,\u201d Jovic said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels amazing to be on the same trophy as her [Ashleigh Barty].<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to be the best tennis player I can be, and number one in the world, and win lots of Grand Slams,\u201d Jovic continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe quality of tennis we have seen over the past week has been outstanding.\u00a0 It is great to see Australia\u2019s best juniors come together and compete so well, while also displaying outstanding sportsmanship,\u201d Tournament Director Mark Pead<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe overall event has been a huge success and I\u2019d like to thank the players, parents, staff and coaches for their support,\u201d Pead added.<\/p>\n
