{"id":17756,"date":"2019-03-24T19:01:14","date_gmt":"2019-03-24T08:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=17756"},"modified":"2019-07-03T12:26:39","modified_gmt":"2019-07-03T02:56:39","slug":"memorial-drive-and-glenlea-crowned-2018-19-tennis-sa-state-league-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2019\/03\/24\/memorial-drive-and-glenlea-crowned-2018-19-tennis-sa-state-league-champions","title":{"rendered":"Memorial Drive and Glenlea crowned 2018\/19 Statewide Super State League champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Memorial Drive<\/strong> have claimed their third straight <strong>Statewide Super State League <\/strong>women\u2019s title at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre this afternoon, alongside <strong>Glenlea <\/strong>who earlier clinched the men\u2019s title with an emphatic victory.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s, Memorial Drive were pushed to their limits by Pembroke, before their blend of experience and youth shone through to see them take home their third premiership in a row.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s match was played in great spirits, the level was very high,\u201d Memorial Drive team captain, <strong>Michelle Leyden <\/strong>said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was two-all before the doubles and the doubles were both played to a really high standard. Going in to the doubles, either team could have won.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in the men\u2019s competition, Glenlea took an unassailable lead after the singles to defeat Broadview and claim the premiership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team has been pretty solid all year, so it was great to get through (to the grand final) and play a tough team in Broadview,\u201d Glenlea team captain, <strong>Jack Schipanski <\/strong>said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough the season, we won one and lost one against them, so to get out there today and have it won after the singles was a pretty good effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s finals marked the last event to be held at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre, prior to redevelopment works commencing in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis SA CEO <strong>Steven Baldas<\/strong> was thrilled to congratulate the winning teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very proud to congratulate our 2018\/19 Tennis SA State League champions, Memorial Drive and Glenlea,\u201d Baldas said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis win takes Memorial Drive to three State League premierships in a row and both teams thoroughly deserve this outstanding result following a fantastic home and away season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t thank Statewide Super enough for their support towards women in sport and the State League.
