{"id":14851,"date":"2018-04-13T09:06:21","date_gmt":"2018-04-12T23:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=14851"},"modified":"2018-04-13T09:06:21","modified_gmt":"2018-04-12T23:36:21","slug":"city-of-playford-tennis-international-to-return-in-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2018\/04\/13\/city-of-playford-tennis-international-to-return-in-2019","title":{"rendered":"City of Playford Tennis International to return in 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After taking home the Most Outstanding Event award at last week\u2019s Tennis SA Awards Dinner, it has been announced that the <strong>City of Playford Tennis International<\/strong> will return in 2019, offering USD$75,000 in prizemoney and significant world ranking points.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis SA and Tennis Australia, in conjunction with the City of Playford, TennisGear and The Grove Tennis Club, will host the Australian Pro Tour event from Monday 31 December 2018 to Sunday 6 January 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The brand new international-standard Playford City Tennis Centre will once again play host to the combined Men\u2019s Challenger and Women\u2019s ITF Futures tournament following an extremely successful inaugural event in January 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The event has in the past attracted the likes of world No.48 <strong>Daniil Medvedev<\/strong> (RUS), former world No.2 <strong>Vera Zvonareva<\/strong> (RUS) and South Australia\u2019s very own world No.179 <strong>Alex Bolt. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to stage the City of Playford Tennis International at the Playford City Tennis Centre again in 2019, a superb new venue which the players really enjoy competing at,\u201d said Tennis Australia\u2019s Head of Tournaments and Officiating, <strong>Isabelle Gemmel.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event provides an ideal lead-in for players preparing to compete in an Australian Open Series event and the first grand slam of the year, Australian Open 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>City of Playford <strong>Mayor Glenn Docherty<\/strong> says the tournament in the heart of Playford\u2019s Sports Precinct is one of the highlights of the city\u2019s sporting calendar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Council is excited to once again host the highest level professional event in South Australia, the City of Playford Tennis International.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe feedback we received from players, business, tourism operators and attendees was fantastic and local shops enjoyed increased trade and foot traffic during the event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The City of Playford Tennis International will once again form a major part of South Australia\u2019s <strong>World Tennis Challenge (WTC) Be Active Challenge <\/strong>events, set to take place throughout January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis SA is thrilled to confirm that the City of Playford Tennis International will return to South Australia\u2019s summer of tennis and the WTC Be Active Challenge for 2019,\u201d said Tennis SA CEO <strong>Steven Baldas. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA sincere thank you goes to the City of Playford for their unwavering support of this tournament.
