The State League competition has seen the gap between teams on the premiership tables continue to increase but still remains anyone\u2019s season to win the title.<\/p>\n
In the Men\u2019s competition<\/strong> Collingrove came to play when they hosted Broadview at their home courts. Collingrove\u2019s Matt Teivans redeemed himself after losing the first 6-1 to return fire winning the next two sets 6-3 6-2 against Corey Decandia. This win set the tone for the day with all other matches going in the favour of Collingrove in Straight Sets winning the match six rubbers to love.<\/p>\n The Drive have set-up a good rivalry with Glenlea and again this weekend\u2019s match didn\u2019t disappoint. The Drives Stefan Norodom returned to the top of the leader board for Player of the Year when he overcame Steve Clasohm in straight sets. Glenlea\u2019s number three Heath Johnstone turned the table when he defeated Sean Swierk in two tight sets which was followed by a win from Glenlea\u2019s Stefan Bianchet in similar fashion. With rubbers tied up leading into the doubles it was Stefan Norodom who paired up with Flock who were able to win by a larger margin than Glenlea\u2019s Simon Pascoe and Bianchet to win by the smallest of margins by two games.<\/p>\n Trinity Gardens came up against a strong finals contender in Tea Tree Gully. Trinity Gardens number one Andrew Tavella kicked things off against Tyson Devine, the match was tightly contested between the two with Tavella walking away with the chocolates in straight sets. Tavella\u2019s team mates followed his lead with Callum Gale and James Ma winning their respective matches. Tea Tree Gully\u2019s Tyson Devine and Dale Nixon paired up in the doubles against Tavella and Ma winning in three sets pushing the match to the last double. It was Trinity\u2019s day with Scott Hughes and Gale holding strong at the number two double winning in straight sets and handing Tea Tree Gully their first loss for the season four rubbers to two.<\/p>\n Seaside who are trying to work their way back into the season played against Kingswood who currently sit in sixth place on the premiership ladder. Kingswood\u2019s number one Sean Van Rensburg received a forfeit at number one. This turned quickly for Kingswood when Seaside went to work winning the next three singles rubbers. Seaside\u2019s Terry Karahalios was the determining factor when he defeated Todd McLean 7-6 6-1. Seaside closed it out winning the Second doubles in Straight Sets giving Seaside their first win four rubbers to two.<\/p>\n In the Women\u2019s competition<\/strong> Goodwood overcame a Trinity Gardens team who was undermanned with their top players out for round five. Goodwood took the match six rubbers to none handing them a much needed ten points to keep them in the running for the top of the ladder position. The Drive followed in similar fashion when they defeated Flagstaff Hill six rubbers to love. The Drive\u2019s Melanie Clayton was pushed by Elyse Edwards winning in three sets, The Drive only allowed Flagstaff Hill to walk away with two sets.<\/p>\n Seaside travelled to Kingswood with both teams battling back and forth for second and third place on the premiership ladder. Singles were split after players played leaving it to the doubles. Seaside were too strong in the end with Selina Turulja and Thalia van der Eeerden defeating Nikki Milner and Vittoria Preresano in straight sets which was then followed by Maggie Pearce and Tully Richter taking out the last rubber in straight sets Handing Seaside a four rubbers to two win.<\/p>\n
