{"id":13893,"date":"2017-11-09T11:43:47","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T01:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=13893"},"modified":"2017-11-09T11:43:47","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T01:13:47","slug":"metro-mid-week-round-2-wrap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2017\/11\/09\/metro-mid-week-round-2-wrap","title":{"rendered":"Metro Mid-Week Round 2 Wrap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second round of the Competitive Metro Mid-Week comp took place last night at the Memorial Drive Centre Courts.<\/p>\n<p>First up was Pembroke taking on the young Prospect line-up.\u00a0 In the top single it was Tom Adams getting it done with some quality tennis.\u00a0 He took on young-gun Alistair Umpherston and, at the end of the day, proved a bit too experienced.\u00a0 There was some good rallies but at the end of the rubber it was a 2 set win.<\/p>\n<p>Grant Pietsch continued on Pembroke\u2019s good form with a 2 set win over Underwood in the second single.\u00a0 From there it was Ben Adams (4-1, 4-1) over Lo, and Matthew Adams (4-1, 4-0) over Noicos who completed a solid singles display for Pembroke.<\/p>\n<p>The top doubles was a fight round down to the wire.\u00a0 It was Tom Adams and Pietsch getting off to a great start, before Umpherston and Underwood hit back taking the second set.\u00a0 The experience of Adams and Pietsch saw Pembroke close it out in the Match Tiebreaker.<\/p>\n<p>Dylan Lo and Micheal Noicos gave Ben and Matt Adams some headaches in the second double, but Pembroke still got it done in 2 sets finishing off a great night\u2019s work and getting them into second place on the ladder.<\/p>\n<p>The other match saw the premiership favourites Henley, taking on the TSA combined side.\u00a0 Tennis SA were always going to have to be at their best to stand a chance, and unfortunately they were without their best player Matt Fitzgerald, which had them on the back foot from the start.<\/p>\n<p>It was an interesting top single, with the hard hitting Beckett Wolfe (TSA) taking on talented youngster Heath Johnston (Henley).\u00a0 Wolfe was on song early, with some huge shots, but the consistency of Johnston saw him get the job done in a first set tiebreak, and ran over the top in the second set, for a two set win.<\/p>\n<p>In the second single there were some long rallies between Ty Allen and Sam von Einem.\u00a0 The scoreboard read 4-1, 4-1 but the match certainly looked closer than that.\u00a0 The veteran Darren Sahb started strongly for TSA, but Matt Robinson was too good in the end with a 2 set win, and Matthew Tregoweth continued the Henley onslaught with a straight sets win.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the doubles continued in similar fashion for TSA, with Johnston and Tregoweth putting on a clinic, and Robinson and Von Einem teaming up well, with both pairings getting it done in straight sets.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis SA will be keen to get Fitzgerald back next week for the showdown against Pembroke, which could well go a long way to seeing who makes the Grand Final in 5 weeks\u2019 time.\u00a0 Prospect will need to be at their very best next week, taking on the top team Henley, who are looking like they will be hard to stop.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second round of the Competitive Metro Mid-Week comp took place last night at the Memorial Drive Centre Courts.
