{"id":11596,"date":"2016-11-07T16:36:14","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T06:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/?p=11596"},"modified":"2016-11-07T16:49:35","modified_gmt":"2016-11-07T06:19:35","slug":"kyrgios-berdych-and-ivanisevic-signed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/sa\/news\/2016\/11\/07\/kyrgios-berdych-and-ivanisevic-signed","title":{"rendered":"Kyrgios, Berdych and Ivanisevic signed!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two of the hottest players on tour, <strong>Nick Kyrgios<\/strong> and <strong>Tomas Berdych<\/strong> plus tennis legend <strong>Goran Ivanisevic<\/strong> are confirmed to star at this summer\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/worldtennischallenge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Tennis Challenge<\/a><\/strong> from 10 to 12 January 2017 at Memorial Drive, Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>Led by one of the most successful doubles pairings in history, <strong>Bob and Mike Bryan<\/strong>, the World Tennis Challenge will feature men\u2019s doubles for the first time along with a singles and a legends match each night.<\/p>\n<p>The field will be boosted to twelve players spread across three teams.<\/p>\n<p>World No.14 Kyrgios has had his best results this year winning three singles titles in Marseille, Atlanta and Tokyo, the first Australian to win three or more titles in a season since South Australian Lleyton Hewitt won four in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios is looking forward to making his debut in Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to playing my first World Tennis Challenge in Adelaide in January,\u201d Kyrgios said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy good friend Thanasi [Kokkinakis] and our [Davis Cup] captain Lleyton [Hewitt] are from there and they say it\u2019s a great place to play and compete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe field so far is pretty strong. I can\u2019t wait to see which legend I team up with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt such a unique event, playing with both a dubs pairing and a legend will be a lot of fun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, Adelaide will be another chance to prepare for the Australian Open,\u201d Kyrgios added.<\/p>\n<p>Berdych, the current world No.11 was last in Adelaide for an exhibition match against Hewitt in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been to Adelaide a few times and I\u2019m looking forward to playing at my first World Tennis Challenge,\u201d Berdych said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe tournament is a fun, relaxed way to secure some quality match practice ahead of the Australian Open and I\u2019m happy to be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Croatian tennis legend Ivanisevic returns to the World Tennis Challenge for his third appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Ivanisevic saw success last year winning the Adelaide crown with Marin Cilic and Iva Majoli.<\/p>\n<p>The former world No.2 is the only men\u2019s player to win Wimbledon as a wildcard. He heads up the legends line-up for 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>World Tennis Challenge General Manager David Hearne<\/strong> said \u201cWe\u2019re excited to welcome Nick Kyrgios, Tomas Berdych and Goran Ivanisevic to the field alongside Bob and Mike Bryan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled with the way the line-up is coming together for 2017. To have two top 15 players as well as one of the most successful doubles pairings in the sport is a great coup for South Australian tennis fans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assistant Minister to the Premier Katrine Hildyard<\/strong> added, \u201cSouth Australians have a passion for tennis, with a track record of producing champions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year the event gets better and better, and this year fans are in for a treat with the likes of Australia\u2019s Nick Kyrgios and international stars Tomas Berdych and the Bryan brothers picking up their racquets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur state has a strong reputation for hosting major events and visitors can look forward to another world-class experience at the World Tennis Challenge.
