Away from sporting activity\u00a0and lets look at our homes and surrounds. Most of us consider our home is safe,\u00a0however for children, in particular small children many dangers exist. It\u2019s a good time\u00a0to remind everyone to be proactive about home safety and in case an accident does\u00a0happen \u2018BE PREPARED\u2019 and learn first aid skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You may not be aware that more children are injured, die and hospitalised from\u00a0accidents in and around the home than any other cause in Australia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5>Some Basic Statistics<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Each year about 250 Australian children (aged 0-14 years) are killed in and\u00a0around homes<\/li>\n<li>Each year \u2013 approximately 58,000 children are hospitalised by unintentional\u00a0injuries \u2013 the kind often referred to as accidents.<\/li>\n<li>In 2015 26 children 0 \u2013 14 years old drowned in Australia and many more\u00a0suffer impairment from emersion (near drowning)<\/li>\n<li>3000 are hospitalised due to poisoning (medication &amp; detergents)<\/li>\n<li>35,000 visit hospital from crush injuries and class cuts<\/li>\n<li>1,200 are hospitalised due to scalds<\/li>\n<li>1,300 are hospitalised with finger jams (many suffering amputations)<\/li>\n<li>6,000 are hospitalised due to falls in the home<\/li>\n<li>A staggering 200,000 visit hospital emergency departments annually from injuries\u00a0in and around the home.\u00a0(Kidsafe Australia)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I completely understand how time poor families can be, with work, sports and just\u00a0being a family time is precious. This is why Australian First Aid has developed a new\u00a0in-home, club or venue of choice a course called First Aid Fast. The course is\u00a0designed to be tailored to suit specific clients needs and in this case we have tailored\u00a0a course just for families.<\/p>\n<p>The course duration is 2.5 to 3 hours with a minimum of 8\u00a0participants we can even hold the course in your home. Why not get Mum, Dad,\u00a0Grandparents, Uncle\u2019s and Aunties together and hold a course in your home at a\u00a0time to suit you.<\/p>\n<p>The course covers basic home safety issues, looks at extreme danger zones for\u00a0children, for example, pools, ponds and driveways. Offers safety tips to ensure your\u00a0home is the safest it can be for children and we cover a variety of common first aid\u00a0management needed for injuries in and around the home including choking &amp; CPR.<\/p>\n<p>Cost is $40 pp (Children under 12 are free) and its OK to have the little ones around\u00a0during the course.
