Queenslanders Priscilla Hon and Lizette Cabrera have taken another encouraging step in their transition to the WTA tour, both advancing to the second round of the 125K series event in Taipei, Taiwan.

Hon, a qualifier, took her winning streak to three in Taipei thanks to a 6-3 3-6 6-0 win over Russian Irina Khromacheva on Wednesday.

She won two rounds in the qualifying draw, scoring a win over top seed Jacqueline Cako – who’d only recently beaten her in the first round of the WTA event in Hong Kong.

Hon next faces wildcard Belinda Bencic, who has won six matches on the trot after triumphing at last week’s WTA 125K event in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Cabrera, meanwhile, produced an impressive play to defeat the in-form Sara Errani on Tuesday.

She sealed her place in the last 16 with a 3-6 7-5 6-2 win over the former world No.5, who has only recently returned to the tour following a two-month doping ban.

Since coming back, Errani had won 11 of 13 matches before falling to Cabrera, who will next face Eri Hozumi – an upset 7-6(2) 6-2 winner over No.2 seed Evgeniya Rodina.

Both Hon and Cabrera have flourished in late-season WTA events in Asia.

Hon advanced to the quarterfinals in Seoul the same week Cabrera reached the same stage in Guangzhou.

Cabrera followed that up with a quarterfinal in Hong Kong, where Hon had qualified for the main draw.
