Representation was strong from across the Territory, with competitors and coaches traveling from the <strong>Darwin International Tennis Centre (DITC)<\/strong>, <strong>Gardens Tennis<\/strong>, and <strong>Tennis Palmerston<\/strong> to join the local <strong>Katherine Tennis Club<\/strong> talent.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>High-Stakes Showdowns: The Open Finals<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Open draws delivered the kind of drama you\u2019d expect from a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nt\/news\/2025\/11\/24\/nt-tennis-shines-double-newcombe-medal-finalists\">Newcombe Medal-nominated event<\/a><\/strong>. All three major finals pushed the players to their limits, ultimately being decided by Match-Tiebreaks (MTB).<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Katherine Refrigeration Men\u2019s Open Singles:<\/strong> Top seed <strong>Andy Bhardwaj<\/strong> (DITC Head Coach) faced off against local star <strong>Lincoln Pratt<\/strong>. Pratt, who is soon headed to the USA for college tennis, pushed the veteran to the edge. Bhardwaj eventually secured the title with a 6-4, 1-6, (10-5) victory.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Contour Men\u2019s Open Doubles:<\/strong> Lincoln Pratt got his revenge later in the day. Partnering with <strong>Ben Proctor<\/strong>, Pratt &amp; Proctor overcame the DITC coaching duo of Andy Bhardwaj and Hayden Litis in a mirrored scoreline of 6-4, 4-6, (10-5).<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Katherine Refrigeration Women\u2019s Open Singles:<\/strong> It was an all-Palmerston affair as <strong>Taylor Albury<\/strong> and <strong>Caitlyn Casey<\/strong> battled for the crown. In a gruelling baseline exchange, Albury took the win 6-4, 3-6, (10-5).<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Contour Women\u2019s Open Doubles:<\/strong> Tournament Director <strong>Emily Ooms-Webb<\/strong> (Pathways Lead, Tennis NT) stepped away from the desk and onto the court, partnering with DITC player <strong>Lucy McNaught<\/strong> to claim the Women\u2019s Open Doubles title.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><em>See the full list of winners <strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/tournaments.tennis.com.au\/sport\/winners.aspx?id=11924dc5-f26c-40eb-be44-253528fa41c4\">HERE<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Word from the Performance Bench<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Martin Rocca, Tennis NT\u2019s Talent &amp; Coach Manager, noted a significant shift in the quality of play compared to his first exposure to Territory tennis at the 2025 Katherine Open.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>&#8220;I saw a big difference with last year&#8217;s performance&#8230; more consistency, longer rallies, and more competitive matches,&#8221; Rocca remarked.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>While praising the transition of players moving toward the net rather than retreating to the baseline, Rocca noted that future training would focus on &#8220;defence out of the comfort zone&#8221; and better placement on approach shots.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Beyond the Baseline: Culture and Community<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>What sets the Katherine Open apart isn&#8217;t just the ranking points\u2014it\u2019s the atmosphere.
