Work on the purpose-built grass courts at the Marrara Sporting Complex are progressing along at a cracking pace in readiness to host the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

Sport and Recreation Minister Gary Higgins<\/em><\/strong><\/span> and Tennis NT Manager Sam Gibson<\/span><\/em><\/strong> inspected work as contractors began laying turf on the show\u00a0court and two practice courts.<\/p>\n

“Marrara will be transformed over the coming months to host one of the World’s biggest sporting events,<\/em>” Mr Higgins said<\/p>\n

“It is very exciting to see the first stage of works beginning to take shape as the grass courts are laid in<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“Building the courts from scratch is a first for the NT Department for Sport and Recreation and a first in Darwin for Tennis Australia, so curators, organisers and contractors will be keeping a keen eye on the turf<\/em><\/p>\n

“By the time the Davis Cup \u00a0quarter-finals roll around in July, the grass courts will be at an international standard supported by world class facilities with beautiful tropical Dry Season weather as a backdrop<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

The Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group quarter-final will be held 17 – 19 July at Marrara Sporting Complex between Australia and Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n

Ticket prices and further details will be released in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
