{"id":4829,"date":"2013-10-02T09:49:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-02T00:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nt\/?p=4829"},"modified":"2013-10-02T09:49:00","modified_gmt":"2013-10-02T00:19:00","slug":"thompson-crowned-alice-springs-champion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nt\/news\/2013\/10\/02\/thompson-crowned-alice-springs-champion","title":{"rendered":"Thompson Crowned Alice Springs Champion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jordan Thompson is the 2013 champion of the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0091d2\"><strong><em>Alice Springs Tennis International<\/em> <\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000\">proudly sponsored by the NT Government<\/span> <\/em><\/span>after taking out the men\u2019s singles title on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson got the early service break to lead Japanese eighth seed Yuichi Ito 3-0 before Ito fought back to level the first set at 4-all.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s as close as Ito got to the 19-year-old Aussie, with Thompson running away with the first set and moving out to a 5-0 lead in the second set before Ito finally got on the board.<\/p>\n<p>The Sydneysider closed out the 6-4 6-1 victory just one game later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It was great to finally win a title in Australia, for sure it is the highlight of my career so far<\/em>\u201d Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>Leading into the final, Thompson had two really tigh three set matches defeating <span style=\"color: #0091d2\"><strong><em>Cairns Tennis International<\/em> <\/strong><\/span>winner Andrew Whittington QLD, Blake Mott NSW, Brendan Moore NSW before out lasting fourth seed Luke Saville SA in an epic semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>Ito wasn&#8217;t without big wins either, taking out third seed Adam Feeney NSW in the quarter-finals before defeating fellow countryman Yusuke Watanuki in the following round.<\/p>\n<p>The win is Thompson\u2019s second Futures title in two month after winning in Austria on clay in July, and his first Futures title on home soil.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian Pro Tour &#8211; Men will have a week off before travelling to New South Wales for the <span style=\"color: #0091d2\"><strong><em>Sydney Olympic Park Tennis International #1<\/em><\/strong><\/span> (5-12 October 2013).<\/p>\n<p>Tennis NT would like to thank the NT Goverment for there continued support and sponsorship of the <span style=\"color: #0091d2\"><strong><em>Alice Springs Tennis International<\/em><\/strong><\/span>, as well as the Alice Springs Tennis Association, Tennis Alice Springs and all the club volunteers\u00a0for their assistance throughout the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jordan Thompson is the 2013 champion of the\u00a0Alice Springs Tennis International proudly sponsored by the NT Government after taking out the men\u2019s singles title on Sunday.
