{"id":25727,"date":"2024-07-22T08:43:47","date_gmt":"2024-07-21T22:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/?p=25727"},"modified":"2024-07-22T08:46:17","modified_gmt":"2024-07-21T22:46:17","slug":"alex-de-minaur-makes-his-olympic-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/news\/2024\/07\/22\/alex-de-minaur-makes-his-olympic-debut","title":{"rendered":"ALEX DE MINAUR MAKES HIS OLYMPIC DEBUT"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25736 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/files\/2024\/07\/DE-MINAUR-1-1-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/files\/2024\/07\/DE-MINAUR-1-1-1.png 1200w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/files\/2024\/07\/DE-MINAUR-1-1-1-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/files\/2024\/07\/DE-MINAUR-1-1-1-1024x512.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At just 25, Alex de Minaur is set to make his Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games next week.<\/p>\n<p>After De Minaur&#8217;s stellar run at Wimbledon, he has achieved a career high ranking of World No. 6 and will lead Team Australia as the top ranked singles player competing alongside fellow Aussies,\u00a0Alexei Popyrin, Ellen Perez,\u00a0Matt Ebden, John Peers, Olivia Gadecki,\u00a0Ajla Tomljanovic, Daria Saville and Rinky Hijikata.<\/p>\n<p>With nine career titles to his name, De Minaur said it\u2019s a dream come true to be selected to the Australian Olympic Team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have always wanted to be an Olympian and I am just so excited to represent the green and gold in Paris,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously last time round I got a little bit unlucky to not be able to play in Tokyo, but I\u2019ve had my eyes set on Paris and I am super excited to now be officially part of this Team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepresenting Australia is always a pride and an honour and the Olympic Games is probably one of the highest accolades you can achieve. It is so special and of course you want to do your best because you\u2019re not just playing for yourself, you\u2019re playing for your team and your country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am really looking forward to just immersing myself in what it means to be an Olympian, I am excited see all the other sports, meeting some of my fellow athletes and teammates and making some new Aussie friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Tennis NSW and the tennis community will be cheering Alex and Team Australia on, and wish them all the best at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
