{"id":20425,"date":"2021-11-25T12:12:04","date_gmt":"2021-11-25T01:12:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/?p=20425"},"modified":"2021-11-25T12:12:04","modified_gmt":"2021-11-25T01:12:04","slug":"sydney-set-for-blockbuster-tennis-events-in-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/news\/2021\/11\/25\/sydney-set-for-blockbuster-tennis-events-in-january","title":{"rendered":"Sydney set for blockbuster tennis events in January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sydney<\/strong> will host a blockbuster line-up of world-class tennis in January, with the return of the <strong>ATP Cup<\/strong> and the new, one-off <strong>Sydney Tennis Classic<\/strong>, a combined women\u2019s and men\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p>The ATP Cup, a 16-country team competition will be played across two venues at <strong>Sydney Olympic Park<\/strong>, <strong>Ken Rosewall Arena<\/strong> and <strong>Qudos Bank Arena<\/strong>, from 1 to 9 January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Qualification for the 2022 ATP Cup is based on the ATP Ranking of the top ranked singles player from each country.<\/p>\n<p>A star studded line-up of women and men will compete at the one-off Sydney Tennis Classic comprising a WTA 500 and ATP 250, taking place at Ken Rosewall Arena from 9-15 January.<\/p>\n<p>NSW Minister for Sport <strong>Natalie Ward<\/strong> said both tournaments gave fans more major events to look forward to, as NSW continues to welcome the return of international sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNSW has done a fantastic job to ensure we can deliver world-class events like the ATP Cup and Sydney Tennis Classic,\u201d Ward said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the world\u2019s top stars set to compete, I can\u2019t wait to see the return of international tennis to Sydney this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NSW Minister for Tourism <strong>Stuart Ayres<\/strong> said the return of the ATP Cup and new Sydney Tennis Classic will help reinvigorate the NSW visitor economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvents like these are essential as we help the tourism and major events sectors recover from the pandemic, driving overnight visitation and showcasing Sydney and NSW to a global television audience across more than 180 countries,\u201d Ayres said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis adds to an exciting calendar of sport events including the Matildas v USA series and the SCG Pink Test.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ATP Cup Tournament Director <strong>Tom Larner<\/strong> said the competition would bring international tennis back to NSW for the first time since 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so thrilled to see a blockbuster line up of international tennis returning to Sydney and can\u2019t wait to welcome fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the New South Wales Government and Destination NSW for their continued support of tennis, including the redevelopment of Ken Rosewall Arena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The player field and ticketing information for each tournament will be announced in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The ATP Cup is proudly supported by Destination NSW and will be held along with the Sydney Tennis Classic at Sydney Olympic Park from 1-15 January 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sydney will host a blockbuster line-up of world-class tennis in January, with the return of the ATP Cup and the new, one-off Sydney Tennis Classic, a combined women\u2019s and men\u2019s event.
