There is plenty to look forward to with the published tournament calendar up to the end of June 2021. The calendar includes the launch of the Junior UTR & State UTR series to support the Australian Ranking (AR) calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whilst AR tournaments are continuing at Silver and Bronze level, the calendar has developed in close consultation with the respective Regional Committees to provide a wide range of competitive playing opportunities that will count towards a players verified Universal Tennis Rating (UTR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Junior UTR Series is a direct replacement for the former Junior Development Series and will provide level-based playing opportunities for children seeking their first introduction into competitive play whilst also offering opportunities for them to gain and improve their UTR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With entry into all AR Tournaments now based on a player\u2019s UTR, then Tennis NSW have taken the initiative to ensure that a range of competitive playing opportunities can support the reduced AR calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of the National Development Squad and incoming Head of Tennis Operations & Pathways, Jaslyn Hewitt-Shehadie said \u201cWith COVID still hanging over us in some shape or form, we have sought to provide a calendar that provides strong tournament play in the school holidays whilst working closely with the Regions to provide competitive play through UTR events and also further supporting player development through the roll-out of our Zonal Squads in both Metro and Regional areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We would encourage all players and coaches to consider the fact that entry to AR events and selection now for National Development squads is based on a players UTR to consider how a player can continue to find appropriate competitive play without having to travel extensively. We believe that the Junior UTR & State UTR series can provide both\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
