Tennis NSW have this week\npublished the tournament calendar up to the end of June 2021. The calendar includes the launch of the Junior\nUTR & State UTR series to support the Australian Ranking (AR) calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whilst AR tournaments are\ncontinuing at Silver and Bronze level, the calendar has developed in close\nconsultation with the respective Regional Committees to provide a wide range of\ncompetitive playing opportunities that will count towards a players verified\nUniversal Tennis Rating (UTR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Junior UTR Series is a\ndirect replacement for the former Junior Development Series and will provide\nlevel-based playing opportunities for children seeking their first introduction\ninto competitive play whilst also offering opportunities for them to gain and\nimprove their UTR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With entry into all AR Tournaments\nnow based on a player\u2019s UTR, then Tennis NSW have taken the initiative to\nensure that a range of competitive playing opportunities can support the\nreduced AR calendar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of the National\nDevelopment Squad and incoming Head of Tennis Operations & Pathways, Jaslyn\nHewitt-Shehadie said \u201cWith COVID still hanging over us in some shape or form,\nwe have sought to provide a calendar that provides strong tournament play in\nthe school holidays whilst working closely with the Regions to provide competitive\nplay through UTR events and also further supporting player development through\nthe roll-out of our Zonal Squads in both Metro and Regional areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We would encourage all\nplayers and coaches to consider the fact that entry to AR events and selection\nnow for National Development squads is based on a players UTR to consider how a\nplayer can continue to find appropriate competitive play without having to\ntravel extensively. We believe that the Junior UTR & State UTR series can\nprovide both\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
