{"id":18377,"date":"2021-01-19T14:59:44","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T03:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/?p=18377"},"modified":"2021-04-23T12:59:53","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T02:59:53","slug":"new-south-wales-juniors-to-benefit-from-tennis-australias-females-in-tennis-development-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/news\/2021\/01\/19\/new-south-wales-juniors-to-benefit-from-tennis-australias-females-in-tennis-development-camp","title":{"rendered":"New South Wales juniors to benefit from Tennis Australia\u2019s Females in Tennis Development Camp"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><a>Aspiring female junior tennis players<\/a> are set to benefit from<strong> Tennis Australia\u2019s Females in Tennis Development Camps<\/strong>, when the all new initiative launches in New South Wales next month. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Set to amplify opportunities for girls and women in tennis,<strong> Coffs Harbour, Parkes, Tamworth, Ulladulla and Belmont <\/strong>will play host to Females in Tennis Devolpment Camps being rolled out across the state, with a total of 25 camps being held across Australia.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Thanks to funding which comes as part of the 2019<strong> Federal Government\u2019s $12million <\/strong>commitment to women and girls in tennis, the day comes at no cost to players with registrations open to all female junior tennis players aged 10 \u2013 14 years of age.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Kicking off in <strong>Coffs Harbour<\/strong>, the first of five camps will be in held at <strong>Westside Tennis Club<\/strong>, on <strong>Saturday 13 February<\/strong>. \u00a0<strong>Tennis Australia\u2019s National Lead \u2013 Females in Tennis, Emma Shoemaker<\/strong>, and <strong>Tennis Australia\u2019s Scholarship Coach &#8211; NSW, Jessica Moore <\/strong>will lead the roll out of the five camps to be held around the state<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Aiming to develop player performance both on and off the court, participants of the female development camps will share in teachings as presented at Tennis Australia\u2019s national camps; including principles and lessons reserved for the Australian elite national teams.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cThese camps are designed to bring girls together and show them that they are an important part of the Australian female tennis community, and that belonging to this community is something special,\u201d said Tennis Australia\u2019s National Lead \u2013 Females in Tennis, Emma Shoemaker.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Designed specifically for girls and reflective of what is being seen in the modern women\u2019s game, participants will focus on skill development, peer connection and unique experiences within tennis.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Underpinning the overall philosophy is Tennis Australia\u2019s Wellbeing Program, with activities designed for nurturing the development of emotionally healthy players.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cThe format of a camp is unique. We\u2019re able to create a comfortable setting for girls to explore new skills, and we have the time and space to run activities off court.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cBoth from a wellbeing and on-court perspective, we know the skills we are teaching in these camps are ones that will be important down the track, especially if girls are looking to pursue high performance tennis.\u201d Said Shoemaker.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Set to offer development opportunities for girls across Australia, the Females in Tennis Development camps will also look to identify players for ongoing opportunities available through both state and national development pathways and camps. These further opportunities also consist of initiatives through Tennis Australia\u2019s inclusion talent pathways so girls identifying with a disability, who currently play tennis, are encouraged to register. Dates are set and registrations open for four camps, with Belmont Tennis Central earmarked to host a camp in term two. Wodonga will also play host to a camp for girls in the South West region of NSW.
