{"id":18083,"date":"2020-12-08T15:00:14","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T04:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/?p=18083"},"modified":"2020-12-08T15:05:33","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T04:05:33","slug":"tennis-nsw-first-state-sporting-organisation-to-commit-to-the-national-redress-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/news\/2020\/12\/08\/tennis-nsw-first-state-sporting-organisation-to-commit-to-the-national-redress-scheme","title":{"rendered":"Tennis NSW first state sporting organisation to commit to The National Redress Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tennis NSW confirmed today that it will\nbe one of the first state sporting organisation to join the National Redress\nScheme, which commenced on 1 July 2018 and will run for 10 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Redress Scheme\n(\u201cScheme\u201d) was created in response to recommendations made by the Royal\nCommission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. It helps those\nwho have experienced institutional child sexual abuse gain access to\ncounselling, a response and payment. The Commission estimated approximately 60,000\npeople experienced institutional child sexual abuse in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tennis NSW Chief Executive Officer,\nLawrence Robertson said \u201cAs one of the sporting organisations to be called out\nspecifically in the Royal Commission report in 2017, this is an important step\nin Tennis NSW addressing the mistakes made in the past by this organisation and\nby the wider sporting community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tennis NSW has a zero tolerance\napproach to child abuse and we hope that with our organisation joining the\nScheme, individuals that may have suffered in the past will be able to access\nthe support they need to heal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside our confirmation of joining the National Redress Scheme, today we are also publishing our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/files\/2020\/12\/Tennis-NSW-Safeguarding-Children-Framework.pdf\">Tennis NSW Child Safeguarding Framework.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This framework sets out what we\nhave done as an organisation and what more we intend to do over the coming year\nto further highlight the importance for all within the tennis community to put\nsafeguarding children at the forefront of their thinking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our framework asks our clubs,\ncoaches and councils to consider how they can ACE child safeguarding in their\nown environment. ACE stands for AWARENESS, CULTURE and EDUCATION if we can all\ncollectively raise our standards in each of these three areas, we will be\nmaking great progress in this critical area for our sport\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a lone institution, Tennis NSW\nis taking full responsibility for any claims made against the organisation in\nconnection with any programs or tournaments that it is responsible for. We will\nembark on an education and awareness program to help our clubs understand what\nour joining the Scheme means for them.
