{"id":12681,"date":"2017-05-03T11:35:24","date_gmt":"2017-05-03T01:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/?p=12681"},"modified":"2017-05-03T11:35:38","modified_gmt":"2017-05-03T01:35:38","slug":"australian-wheelies-off-to-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/nsw\/news\/2017\/05\/03\/australian-wheelies-off-to-world-cup","title":{"rendered":"Australian Wheelies off to World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australia will field an all-star wheelchair tennis team at the <strong>BNP Paribas World Team Cup<\/strong>, to be held in Sardinia, Italy this\u00a0week from 1 to 7 May 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Four Sydneysiders including <strong>Ben Weekes <\/strong>(Strathfield, NSW), <strong>Adam Kellerman <\/strong>(St. Ives, NSW), <strong>Keegan Oh-Chee<\/strong> (Eastwood, NSW) and the team\u2019s first ever \u2018orange boy\u2019, <strong>Stephan Rochecouste<\/strong> (Glenfield, NSW) are all overseas to take part.<\/p>\n<p>Australia has maintained a strong position at the international tournament and has competed in the prestigious World Group 1 category for the last three years.<\/p>\n<p>At last year\u2019s World Team Cup in Japan, Australia finished fourth out of 12 teams. This year\u2019s format will see an increase in the number of teams from 12 to 16.<\/p>\n<p>Oh-Chee is looking forward to experiencing the team camaraderie that comes with the World Team Cup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorld Team Cup is a fantastic opportunity to work together. Expectations become based less on individual results and more about achieving team goals, being competitive and enjoying playing against some of the world\u2019s top tennis teams,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis Australia National Academy wheelchair coach <strong>Vernon Cheung<\/strong> is also looking forward to the challenge ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a really strong team and I\u2019m looking forward to heading over to Sardinia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetween Ben Weekes, Keegan Oh-Chee and Adam Kellerman, we have a highly experienced team and I\u2019m confident we\u2019ll be a powerful force at this year\u2019s tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rochecouste was also delighted to be heading to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt\u2019s an honour to be selected as orange boy for this year\u2019s World Team Cup,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m most looking forward to being amongst the guys that I\u2019ve looked up to over the last few years, being a great supporter and getting some hitting time in with the boys in the lead up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Australian wheelchair tennis team for BNP Paribas World Team Cup:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ben Weekes<\/strong> (Strathfield, NSW) \u2013 Australian No.1, world No.20<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Kellerman<\/strong> (St. Ives, NSW) \u2013 Australian No.2, world No.42<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keegan Oh-Chee<\/strong> (Eastwood, NSW) \u2013 Australian No.3, world No.61<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephan Rochecouste<\/strong> (Glenfield, NSW) \u2013 Orange boy<\/p>\n<p>-ends-<\/p>\n<p>The BNP Paribas World Team Cup is the ITF\u2019s wheelchair tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup.<\/p>\n<p>There are divisions for men, women, quads and a junior event supported by the Cruyff Foundation.
