Jordan Thompson is raring to go for his \u201cspecial\u201d Davis Cup debut.<\/p>\n
Lleyton Hewitt\u2019s squad team takes on Czech Republic in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group opening round tie on hardcourt at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club next week.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means the world, you know, to be playing for Lleyton (Hewitt) as well it\u2019s even more special,\u201d said Thompson, who has been named alongside world No.13 Nick Kyrgios, big-serving Sam Groth and world No.9 doubles specialist John Peers in the four-man side.<\/p>\n
Thompson\u2019s endeavours off and off the court have earned the 22-year-old the call-up.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had big pre-season. Six to seven weeks long,working hard on every aspect of my game and it paid off. Quarter-final in Brisbane, won the doubles with Thanasi (Kokkinakis), did ok in Sydney and won a round here (Australian Open) so it\u2019s going pretty well,\u201d said the Aussie youngster, having built confidence from his fine recent performances.<\/p>\n
\u201cDefinitely (confident), played plenty of matches this year and been playing at a high level.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Sydneysider is grateful for guidance from national sporting hero Hewitt and his coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess Lleyton\u2019s a bit of a mentor, but I\u2019ve been mainly working with my coach Des Tyson. We\u2019ve been working together for two years and the progress has been pretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n
The home crowd will hopefully cheer on the Aussies down at Kooyong from February 3-5.<\/p>\n
